Why are these what make up the main cost of the sets and what causes this to happen? Now when I want to buy a full set I can't because everyone is buying the helms by themselves for investment value.

Whoah, you're right. I keep the skirt and top above the helm even though the ge value is massively inverse.

Actually they have the exact same drop rate according to Jagex. The reason for the price difference is because of the piece you lose on death. Some examples:

 

Guthan's -> Lose Spear + Helm (Assuming you have a whip with you) -> Guthan's Helm + Spear make up the cost.

 

Dharok's -> Lose Helm if using full set -> Helm is worth 4.6M/5.6M.

 

Ahrim's -> Lose bottom if skulled with top + bottom -> bottom is worth more.

People pking in PvP, along with regular deaths + the "panic" that helms are extremely rare make them a good candidate for merch clans.

 

 

 

Btw all barrow items have equal chance of being gotten.
