I don't think it shows more skills (as in better ability) but since crafting is a secondary skills, it's kinda normal that it doesn't give more. You should compare str to a gathering skill like mining or WC.

I mean, having 85 crafting shows more skill than 92 strength, but 92 strength can get everything that 85 crafting does.

85 Crafting does not require "skill", nor does much in this game. Your effectiveness on RuneScape is defined by amount of time spent on the game and how lucky you are. You can't say that getting experience in one skill as opposed to another is more "skillful", getting a firecape can be considered skillfull as it requires a strategy that will more often than not cause you to fail if you mess up. Using needle -> green d'hide leather x number of times is not skillful, neither is attacking a bunch of armoured zombies.

KBD drops 100 noted yew logs kinda uncommonly, but raw material skills are probably the only skills that dont get screwed over by combat, to a huge extent.

Nothing in Runescape takes skill, obviously, I was kinda lost for words :?

But once again, the sentence "and how lucky you are.". You dont get lucky with anything in runescape except combat, which is another thing you can fall back on.

Can we try to stick to the more on topic part of this debate? :?

I dont need a siggy no moar.

I just wanted to make sure i wasn't misinterpreting what you were saying. ;)

There are aspects of skilling where you can get lucky, but like you said it is nothing in comparison to combat. Level 83 Hunters are the only people able to dragon darts and arrows into the game, similar to how chinchompas were mentioned earlier in the thread.

I think you got it backwards... raw material skills are being screwed by combat in the sense that you can get some raw materials as a drop, meaning you have no need to skill to gather you materials.

I dunno, it seems like raw material skills have it better off - you cant get huge amounts of lobsters, swordfish, etc without training the skill. Other skills are kinda useless though.

That is true, but there arent many other examples. And really, not many people use dragon darts OR dragon arrows. Most people use bolts for Ranged, or bronze-to-black knives or darts for training.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just want to say, with combat and skilling, it REALLY started to become unbalanced with the release of GWD.

The GWD is just TOO GOOD a money maker, people were literally making hundreds of millions in days! The only thing that comes close the GWD in terms of average gp/hr is double nats graahk runecrafting at level 91. But how many people have 91 rc? not much.

What I'm saying is that too many people can use the GWD to make money way too easily. It just doesn't make people want to train skills anymore, they can get all the money they need from hilt drops. This also screwed over RS in terms of buyable skills. Because a lot of people now have hundreds of millions of gp, they will want to buy skills, and getting a skill like smithing to 99 just because you dunno where to spend the money and not because you actually like the skill totally defeats the purpose.

I think I kinda wandered away from my point there, but O well.

I just think Jagex released way too many high end drops in such a short amount of time. Since the release of GWD in Aug 07 (was it? i forgot), we have gotten corp beasts (200m drops  ) and TDs (30m d claws). But before that, we only had whips and dag kings, whose prices have dropped fast after its release, while the prices of GS's have still stayed at 50m :| .

Regardless, combat is basically the only way you can get rich w/o doing much work now -.-
