somekid11
Ok i checked out the sticky and the faq but didnt see anything about this. What happened is that somehow, i could only use 1 server/world when playing RS. for example, only world 8 would load 1 day, then only world 47 would load another day. So i decided to do what the sticky said: dl the sun java, check box it and uncheck box the MS java, restart, etc. So i load up rs, and this message comes up: install java plug-in 1.4.2 so i click install, and java installer come up then this error message: "This intallation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windos Installer package." Help? btw, the java that appears on my internet options advaced tab is "JRE 1.5.0_01 for (requires restart)" if that is any help. Thanks in advance
Mementh
ok.. your on windows XP.. and i am sorry to say that the only reason in installs MS JAVA is because the basica java does not understand the TAB KEY (when entering your username/pass when logging on) head here http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html and download from tehre.. install and upgrade.. you should be ok btw get mozilla firefox so that you just use that to surf the web and IE for rs only :) The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. 60% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time andrew i love you & want you to have my babys!!! Mercifull
Have you read the Sticky: Problems using java for playing runescape ? Look here... ? Do NOT install MS Java, there are critical security issues with MS Java VM wich will NEVER be patched as Microsoft was ordered by the courts not to distribute it anymore. Any site where you get the old version of MSJava is likely to be modified by the person whos site it is and could perhaps even contain a keylogger or some other trojan type virus To the thread starter: Which version were you trying to download? http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. It doesnt matter what browser you are using MSJava with. Its a cross platform system and you can still be infected by the byteverify virus even when using firefox. somekid11
Yep it use firefox :) Mercifull: Yes i did read that topic and did everything the topics said, including looking over stuff in the "FAQ" section. I might not have made this clear, but im talking about SUN java here... All that said, my original question was why can't i install the plugin 1.4.2 from the SUN website. I download it but nothing comes up

L_B_P
Mercifull I think it time you stop scaring ppl everytime you disagree with other ppl. Have you read the Sticky: Problems using java for playing runescape ? Look here... ? Do NOT install MS Java, there are critical security issues with MS Java VM wich will NEVER be patched as Microsoft was ordered by the courts not to distribute it anymore. Any site where you get the old version of MSJava is likely to be modified by the person whos site it is and could perhaps even contain a keylogger or some other trojan type virus Either show us some prove about what you sayingd or stopp it. If you have some prove for this site report it to his ISP head here http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.htmlquote] It doesnt matter what browser you are using MSJava with. Its a cross platform system and you can still be infected by the byteverify virus even when using firefox. You can't impossibly have read SUN java forum, as virus whatevery you use ms java or sun java, you still get the virus on you hard disk. The different I don't gonna tell it must be your owne job to read SUN java forum. A sticky that show sun java and claim sun java works fine and also nearly 2 years old is BS. Since servicepack 4 to W2k and servicepack 2 to Xp came out, ppl have had tons of problems. I must be the luckiest man on earth as I have used ms java for years. I wonder why haven't got hacked 1000 times and keaylogged 1000 times. 1 of the few trojan I ever got on my computer was funny enough from here

Mercifull
I really cant be bothered to write an essay replying to you L_B_P but i will answer a few basic facts. Fact 1: MS Java is highly exploitable, check any non bias security source Fact 2: MS Java is NOT supported by Microsoft anymore. You are trusting the integrity of your machine to an unknown third party. Fact 3: I have NEVER had problems with SUN Java EVER on ANY computer I have ever used it on. If you configure it properly you will have NO problems. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape.
