September 30, 200520 yr although the tip.it times actual claims that "the editor" using the extra files client(which is using java vm and using explorer) at the recent tip.it times, somehow the word firefox stuck out; at the right hand bottom corner, the picture of a fox somehow appear... i am not sure why people will use firefox to play runescape. it dont use ms jvm, however andrew and paul have deals with m$ that no sound if you use the stupid sun. (despite m$ jvm will never fix its bugs, it is smaller and better somehow, rumor says there are secret lines in the peace aggreement) howcome they cant feel that rs is actually slower running in firefox (i am not saying that browsing the web, just playing rs2 itself). perhaps those people got a really fast computer with loads of memory, so they dont feel a thing. but hey, press ctrl-alt-delete and open up your task manager, you will see it eats up to 100,000k ram. yea that is about 100mb gone. even it is inactive, it still eat up 80,000k of your o'good mem. ie however only eat about 40k and about 6k inactive. whys that? thanks to sun microsystem to their nice contribute, bigger but worser java than their buggy m$ jvm rival(?). ------------read below if you hate seeing big words above------------- unless firefox change its m$ hating policy of not using m$ vm, it is never suitable to play rs2... or any other massive java base game. dont forget you can also not use m$ java vm in the actual m$ ie. (but who will switch for a bigger and worser sun java vm?) Examine ChenGMT (level: 138)
September 30, 200520 yr You are very very wrong about many of the things you have written about. Firefox is NOT anti MS Java. the reason why you cannot use MS Java on firefox is because it was not built be be able to work in it. MS Java is not supported by Microsoft and no more work will be done on it including security patches and updates. Andrew and Paul have NOT made any deals with MS to only make sound work using MS Java nd not SUN. Thats absurd. The reason why sound only work in MS Java (IE) is because IE includes a built in MIDI player. SUN Java at the time did not fully support this for reasons I cant remember and so the music and sound now needs to be recoded to work using SUN. Andrew said it is being worked on but its not one of the top priorities for them as the number of people using FF to play Runescape is very small. SUN Java plays the sound effects in Internet Explorer. It is not the Java that is the issue here RS Tends to run slower in FF because people run Firefox in tabs instead of in a stand alone window. This means that the memory require to rune runescape is also spread over the other tabs resulting in a small lag. On its own Firefox does not lag Runescape, at least not in my experience anyway. I could go on but any IT savvy person here knows that all of what you wrote is a load of BS really and its almost laughable ^_^ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. September 30, 200520 yr well i can tell ou one thing rs does not use midi its uses wave files and Jagex decided to support ie as the default.. it doesw not matter if your using sun or ms java in IE. it still will play sounds... it uses though "active scripting" which is also used fyi to make you click the cuttons to play from the main page (you can't just jump to the server) turn off active scripting (and 1-2 other settings) and you can't hear sound but you jump to the list every time..... but firefox is more secure.. its more stable. its in every way better cept for sound. now rsc might have had sound because of a midi player or something simalar.. but... its not they way to go.... and as soon as jagex figures out how to play sounds in firefox you will probabbly see IE useage decline with all the users The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. 60% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time andrew i love you & want you to have my babys!!! October 1, 200520 yr Okay. Next time, please get a clue what you're talking about before making random accusations. 1. Firefox is not anti-MS-java. MS Java was never and will never be developed to work on anything other than MS IE. That's not anyone's problem but Microsoft's, and Firefox is definitely not going to adopt the ActiveX standard just to create some more security holes. 2. Microsoft and Jagex do not have some kind of 'deal' that there is no sound when using the SUN java vm. SUN just never had an implementation that offered music playback until about a year ago. Why Jagex haven't fixed their code to use this implementation (they said they would), I have no idea. 3. Memory usage (in the case of runescape) is a virtual machine problem. IE, it has nothing to do with the browser - it has everything to do with the virtual machine you're using. Using SUN's vm, you get more memory usage, even in IE. Firefox 1.0.x does have memory usage issues. Most (all?) of the leaks have been fixed for 1.5beta1, so either use that or wait until it goes out of beta. These issues would only show up when you open loads of tabs, load them with webpages and close them again, and repeat that quite a few times. Anyhow, I can't see why you're complaining. I've had Firefox use 150MB of ram and another 200MB of swap space without ever loading RS. I just keep one browser window open all day, and use tabs excessively. Which is sucky for performance in just about any app.
October 1, 200520 yr I have 2 downloads going and 6 tabs open in firefox and according to my Task manager FireFox is only using 41,832K Much less than half of your accusation.

(despite m$ jvm will never fix its bugs, it is smaller and better somehow, rumor says there are secret lines in the peace aggreement) that makes no sense at all...thats like saying nixon is still alive and hiding in a bunker somewhere underground in Mexico... Firefox does run Runescape slower than IE, mainly because my computer is very old and very slow. However, thats just my problem and not firefox's. dude i got pked and lost my full zezima
October 2, 200520 yr well i can tell ou one thing rs does not use midi how do u know they dont use midi? somewhere on the runescape site it had instuctions to get your music working, something to do with midi, they said nothing about wave. i think they use midi, but if u can show me how they r using wave or some solid information on the matter go for it. besides wave is huge.

October 2, 200520 yr Just use the Rs client to play rs, and firefox for all other internet activities. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
