Alal_Pwn
I know I said it is Ubuntu Mint, but I think it's time to tell people what I've been working on. It's a little something called RUbuntuScape, and it will be coming to a mirror near you soon. It boots off a live usb, with no install needed. You will need 2 gb for the ISO + formatting, which will be 1.3 gb of the system files, and .07 for swap. When I get it fully functional, I will post links to local mirrors in a thread on this very board. Stay tuned. Also, with the first release I will need translators so if you are multilingual I would appreciate your help  My browser picture is a first look at just how AWESOME this RuneOS will be. I'm pushing for a November release, so if you want Extra Features added let me know via pm. I'd really like Tip.It staff support so if someone could consider this, I would be very grateful. dsavi
If I have time I could translate it into Swedish. It depends on how much there is to translate. Also, I think you should minimize the number of programs used by it, get it down to maybe ~300 MB, shouldn't be too hard.
JoeDaStudd
More information please. Why base it on Mint instead of the vanilla version? That way you can tweak it more and have a fresher more lean starting base. I'm interested in how your going to tweak it for RS. JRE is a given, IRC, Xfce or KDE to reduce load, remove all none essentials, add a few RS non-copyrighted images and your done. Doesn't seem like a big job to me. First of all, Mint has a lot of drivers and binary blobs shipped as standard. Second, you have got to be kidding me. KDE is the biggest resource hog there is when it comes to desktop environments. I would recommend Fluxbox, IceWM-lite or even Awesome but that's just me. Your RuneScape users would probably freak out at the sight of just Fluxbox, let alone Awesome. JoeDaStudd
Would you believe me if I said I put an K instead of an E? Last time I looked at Mint it was simply Ubuntu with codecs, a few graphic tweaks and the odd non official driver. Its pretty much a attempt to simplify Ubuntu to a level whereby its practically windows. EDIT: I remember toying with flux and it would bug the hell out of 99.9% of users tbh [hide=Drops]Dragon Axe x11Berserker Ring x9Warrior Ring x8SeercullDragon MedDragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kcGodsword Shard (bandos)Granite Maul x 3Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats][/hide]
Alal_Pwn
I found a nice theme for fluxbox, but i'm seriously considering blackbox. I also will put compiz as an option for people who want a full install. The reason i'm basing it off linux mint is because of added drivers and such. And i'm rebranding firefox so that will be the bit of work. If I could get a stable, long term firefox release that would be GREAT. But mozilla likes to put out brandings EVERY DAY. Sorry, just a little frustrating. But yeah, i was going to use emerald as window decorator, but it's not exactly low-impact. Not going to be on the live usb version, maybe on the full install? Alal_Pwn
And should I add wine? I don't see any reason why I should, but lets face it, some people use winblows, and like their photoshop and whatnot. Also, anyone know a good screen recorder? istanbul used to be good. I'd use gtk-record Mydesktop, but it's kinda slow. Any ideas? EDIT-- Compiz has a nice screenshot capability, where you hold super down and select a region of the screen to capture, any way to replicate that? Proud owner of RECON. Celt23
If I could get a stable, long term firefox release that would be GREAT. I've never had problems with 3.x, I used 3.5 on Linux but it was buggy in my experience and I've heard it crashes more than 3.x. The latest version of 3.x is 3.0.13 iirc. If this is RS-oriented, there's no reason to add wine. That would just take up space. If people want to use windows apps then they'd add it themselves I think. Oh and compiz is extremely buggy. When I used that I can't count how many times it crashed. It doesn't even have a stable release. Just my 2 cents. This looks like a fun idea. Roken
Desktop Environment: XFCE Kernel: Use the 9.04 Vanilla kernel. Has a buttload of nice new drivers on it. Especially when it comes to wireless. Personally, if you want it to be smooth, all it needs are the core os features for hardware detection, sound, video (X), network tools etc, and a browser/Runescape client. Now, as to whats in the client is up to you. /* Click for blog action! */
Alal_Pwn
update time. So i'm going to be using Xfce, with fluxbox window decorator. Full gtk and KDE3/4 libs, but no desktop package. Working on a GDM login that looks like runescape login. I'ts going to be either U 9.04 or U 9.10, vanilla. Going to be using either the abrowser or shire for web, with built in runescape client. The client will be the tough part. Expect weekly updates/screenshots here. Keep those suggestions coming! Proud owner of RECON. YES MLG FTFW! will eventually get my recon avvy, deal with it. dsavi
Full KDE 3/4 libs? That's insane. You have to come into focus: I suggest making a distro that plays RuneScape, has a few accessories to help, and does nothing else.

You have to come into focus: I suggest making a distro that plays RuneScape, has a few accessories to help, and does nothing else. I wholeheartedly concur. There's absolutely no sense in making the distro flashy or "RS themed" if it lags the game itself. You'd probably be best served using Fluxbox, Sun Java 6, and Prism for the RS Client. Provide some tools to aid the user in playing RS - since Prism can run the same plugins that Firefox can, that means you could give them the Tip.it plugin - but that's about all you need.
