As always this is the very rough WIP planning stages, just trying to decide on an appropriate layout and everything. It does have a bit more "style" than my normal WIPs just because I'm copying over what I did for onlineaion.com.

 

 

 

I've been trying to think of some ways to get some more visitors and it dawned on me, Aion does not currently have its own "Warcraftmovies" equivalent. Essentially the idea is to make a community site where users can upload videos and I and the admin will try and just get as many Aion-based videos on the site as possible. I haven't ran it by him yet, I'm actually doing this half just for some practice, but I like the idea and I figured it would give me something to try -- especially since such a site is much more different than the normal minimalistic stuff I'm used to.

 

 

 

I do probably need a "banner" type thing as well, and the search bar can obviously get smaller as well.

 

 

 

Right now my main concerns are this:

  . I'm still worried about the layout. I know I want to have a community spotlight near the top, in order to show off the "biggest" videos. This is a pretty standard feature it seems among sites such as this and I know I want it. However I'm wondering about the idea of "New movies, Top rated and Most viewed". I'm not sure if having them in a trio like that is a good idea, and it feels like they are sort of squished in there right now.
   
   
   
  . Stylistically I'm not sure what to really do with it. I've got some rough ideas and all, and I want to probably keep it close to the style of onlineaion, but I'm having a hard time finding a balance between squeezing in content and putting in some aesthetic charm.
   
   
   
  . The links at the bottom I plan on doing drop down (well... drop up? If that is proper at all) menus or having them link to an external page. Not sure which yet, although drop down menus seem to look good and efficient on the onlineaion site. Not to mention they are easy to implement so far.
   
  

 

 

 

So needless to say I feel sort of... stuck. Actually looking at the layout more and more the more... :wall: I feel about it. I'm not sure if it's because of the layout or just that I don't have any styling things done yet.

 

 

 

Either way looking for any friendly C/C on what you guys think a good direction would be to go in. I feel like I want to try something different or unique with it as well.. instead of just a standard layout.

Try separate the site out into sections. But more importantly, you should definitely use the 960 grid system (http://960.gs). It is perfect for what you are trying to achieve, and would really help you lay it out better. However, if you're new to CSS, you might find it confusing.

 

 

 

If you use .container_16 (allows for 16 "columns"), then .grid_16 will become the widest column (your header).

 

.grid_4 would be used on each of the rounded-cornered images. (.grid_4 x 4 = 16)

 

.grid_4 would be used for the boxes for text at the bottom of the page, with a .grid_2 in between to add to the spacing. (4+2+4+2+4)

 

then .grid_16 again for the footer.

 

 

 

Anyway, check out the site, it's really useful (the demo), and also check out site that currently use the 960gs (on the homepage).

I know your trying to stylize it the same as the main site, but that blue doesn't look good with some of those video previews. Maybe make it a black or white.

 

 

 

Also, the height to with ratio doesn't look good to me. It is too skinny, or the "New", "Top", and "Most" boxes are too long.

You've got a point. Due to the way the site would be I wouldn't have much control how video previews would look. Maybe I'll try some different colors and such. I also don't want to set it up too much like youtube, although I understand what you're saying with the New/Top/Most boxes. The only problem with that is that they will be split up into categories eventually, showing New/Top/Most for PvP/PvE/Storyline.

Good point actually. I'll probably work on making it a different style than, although I was planning on changing some of the style eventually so it was different. The one difficulty I have is making sure I have everything fitting for a 1024x768 layout right now. I'll mess around a bunch more.

Go for a fully fluid webpage maybe?

On the text in the boxes. make it something a multiple of 5 lol. It is 24. Try 20 or 10... It just seem like too much.
