CPU usage

Featured Replies

My runescape has been lagging a lot recently. First I thought it was because of my brother downloading crap, but it wasn't. I ctrl+alt+dlted and found out that I was using 100% of my CPU, 95-99% of which by runescape[Caution: ExecutableFile]. Im not sure if this has always been the case, but I havent been lagging before.

I have a decent computer, AMD 2600+ and 512MB RAM and Im always playing on low detail.

Anyone have a clue why RS would be using this much resources and what to do? Is it just that the new updates require more and more and I got to update my hardware?

1) this should be in technical support

2) It always runs on %100 for me, and i Don't lag. Are you sure it's just not the world your on?

Since the updates I've actually been running faster then normal. I run on high detail and have, in comparison, a piece of junk PC (1.2MHz PIII with 256 MB RAM).

The thing that kills performance the most are the ads (for me at least). From the Lag sticky in this forum, there was a great tip on shrinking your IE window to you can't see the side and bottom ads. It does help.

If I'm getting a lot of lag, I'll usualyl log out and back in, which causes the ad banner on top of the page to change. I'm learning which ads are always a problem and log out as soon as I see them before it costs me in a fight.

now them you have to make sure that runescape is doing it.

log in to runescape then alt+ctrl+delete.

Go into task manager and on the tabs click to processes.

Down the right of each process is how much CPU each is using.

Now obviously runescape will be using alot, and maybe about 2 with internet explorer/firefox.. Go down and check if anything else is using your CPU.(there should only be runescape and explorer/firefox using your CPU).

1 first... are you using the downloadable client?

2 is it only happening when rs is playing

3 are you on a modem or cable..

1 if you are using the client disreguard. if your going to the web page... get some virual help.

2 if its only happening when playing then 3 might be your problem

3 if your on a modem and it only lags when playing try switching to low detail

if this helps then your modem might be the culprit.

most PCI modems use a small bit of the computers cpu (this makes the modem cheaper) to make the modem work. this means when your cpu is at 100% and using alot of data for rs the modems not getting the minumim for its correct operating ability and dropping the speed.

the other thing is your phone line might have a fault?

if your on cable.. or dsl or other high speed.. i really don't know what to do..

have fun

As I said in my first post, runescape is using 95-99% of the CPU. The rest goes to firefox, msn etc.

Is it 95-99% usage if you play it off the browser, and not off the RS client?
