Custom/dynamic quests!

Featured Replies

Good day people.

I am posting to encourage the discussion of the potential of custom/dynamic quests being introduced into RuneScape.

First I shall explain exactly what I mean by a custom/dynamic quest!

Essentially I am talking about quests which are randomly generated for a specific player or group of players tailored to their specific wants, stats and experience. Basically a quest that is custom made specifically for you so the monsters, puzzles and such would be perfect for you. These quests would probably not be quite as story driven (dynamically created stories are a hard thing to pull off) but would be more action driven (And by action I include combat, puzzle solving and basically anything that isn't story). Once you've finished completed one of these quests you could go and start another but, thanks to the dynamic nature of them, it would be completely different to what you have done previously. A completely new adventure.

So what do you think? How exactly might they work? What sort of things might they include in these quests? Discuss.

I do know that back when I played, jagex promised them along with the full launch of rs2, or at least early on. I picture mostly randomly generated terrain with certain monsters that can be taken on solo or in groups. There obviously has to be an extra element, like you said puzzles or something. That's probably what jagex has been working on getting right until they release it. I do think a lot of what we've seen in game has been a product of their working towards dynamic quests, they just decided to launch them as mini-games until they get this system right.

I think randomly generated areas are a must. Forests, dungeons maybe even small villages? Well I would hope that they make it a little sophisticated than just randomly making som bumpy terrain and placing some scenery around it. Some random NPCs and stuff would be cool.

The more in-depth the better. I'd hope it would be more sophisticated than that, but if these situations are completely random, it would be pretty hard to code specific situations unless the situations become not-so-random and more like mini-games.

I would imagine that they might have lots of pre-created "set-pieces" that they then randomly slot into the rest of the quest.

That's basically what Temple Trekking/Burgh de Rott Ramble is, so like Adam said, hopefully this would be a lot more sophisticated.

Randomly generated dungeons/area quests?

Would definately be a great addition to the gameplay.

Not just quest areas but an entire quest to complete!
