  1. Runetek is the engine Not to my understanding. Runetek is basically the translation engine that converts Runescript to stuff other systems can understand to produce results. The engine itself, which is being recoded from the ground up for RS3, is the graphical, audio etc. etc components behind runetek that render what it is telling them too. Plus runetek iterations have added big new features yes but they have never been an entire re-write, just bolt-ons of new things on a larger scale than the day-to-day minor additions. RuneTek is the game engine upon which RuneScape runs. This includes the client-side and the server-side, I believe. The client portion, the bit you as a player use, has been rewritten in JavaScript and makes use of WebGL technology. The client handles rendering the game, sending your inputs to the server and responding to server messages. The server-side portion is what is actually running the game simulation. It takes player inputs, determines the consequences of the actions, and updates the game and clients appropriately. It also handles things like NPCs, Quests, Combat, minigames and basically everything in the game. This makes use of the compiled RuneScript code as well as other gameplay systems built into the engine. RuneScript is compiled (into Java, I think) by a tool separate from the engine itself; the engine doesn't compile or "translate" any RuneScript itself. The server-side game engine, as far as I know, isn't changing beyond how it is usually updated. I highly doubt it's being rewritten. Do you have a source to back up your claims? There's also backend infrastructure, hosted on servers, that includes things like lobby server software, login servers, database management, and all sorts of services made available through the game and website. They had to extend this infrastructure to allow for audio (and possibly other assets, but I'm not sure about that) streaming in the new client, but that's the only thing I have read that's being changed for "RuneScape 3". This is all based on stuff I've read about the RuneScape technology and academic guesses based on my background as a games programmer.
  2. No update today, update will happen this week. See sticky in Future Updates forums. I stick by new tutorial or name changing update.
  3. Why on earth does it upset you that Jagex, a business, wishes to advertise it's other facets in order to potentially make a little more money. Besides when a new update is released it would knock the FunOrb post down anyway so i can see no real problem here at all.
  4. It's Jagex's website and they can do with it as they please. If they want to advertise their other gaming website on it then they are perfectly entitled to. Sometimes I think there's no hope for the RuneScape community
  5. Not just quest areas but an entire quest to complete!
  6. I would imagine that they might have lots of pre-created "set-pieces" that they then randomly slot into the rest of the quest.
  7. I think randomly generated areas are a must. Forests, dungeons maybe even small villages? Well I would hope that they make it a little sophisticated than just randomly making som bumpy terrain and placing some scenery around it. Some random NPCs and stuff would be cool.
  8. Good day people. I am posting to encourage the discussion of the potential of custom/dynamic quests being introduced into RuneScape. First I shall explain exactly what I mean by a custom/dynamic quest! Essentially I am talking about quests which are randomly generated for a specific player or group of players tailored to their specific wants, stats and experience. Basically a quest that is custom made specifically for you so the monsters, puzzles and such would be perfect for you. These quests would probably not be quite as story driven (dynamically created stories are a hard thing to pull off) but would be more action driven (And by action I include combat, puzzle solving and basically anything that isn't story). Once you've finished completed one of these quests you could go and start another but, thanks to the dynamic nature of them, it would be completely different to what you have done previously. A completely new adventure. So what do you think? How exactly might they work? What sort of things might they include in these quests? Discuss.
  9. Seemed Legit? he had a screen shot with edit marks on it, none of the text even lined up, and we have never had pictures anything like it before on this forum. Just the fact that it said "Objective" means it could have just been another blank space too, that they are planning on adding something to later. Edit: Image removed Adam007 - Tip it Mod There is the pic everyone, you can see the high quality of it, and how it is obviously evidence of the new tab and couldn't be anything else. I don't really know what edit marks you are referring to. There aren't any on there since the image was in no way edited. I copied it into Paint to save it as a PNG. As for the text not lining up well... I can confidently say that you are among the stupid in this community. Can someone please delete this thread so i can start afresh and hopefully not have this moron spamming his untruths everywhere?
  10. I am glad you can admit that you were, indeed, very far off. Good to get that cleared up. I would contend the allegation that I am useless. I have brought more to my speculation than most other users. Clearly I do have at least one use  I was being sarcastic, you modded the client, gained jmod commands, and all in normal rs worlds, all against rules. Also in your claim that you have one use, everyone here is saying "Proof?" or "This thread has no purpose." So obviously this is not a great thread. We have already found the icon for the new tab, you just found something that you think "might" be the name of the tab, and you are not even certain of that. Actually I am certain that this is the name of tab. Anyway I am getting annoyed with your constant derailing of my thread. Could a mod please delete this thread? I wish to take a different approach to this.
  11. I'll edit my first post with an explanation ;)
  12. I am glad you can admit that you were, indeed, very far off. Good to get that cleared up. I would contend the allegation that I am useless. I have brought more to my speculation than most other users. Clearly I do have at least one use
  13. Ah. Here we see an excellent specimen of the "uninformed fool". Firstly I did not change any server info. I'm really sure where you got that from. Second I did not have "J-Mod" powers. You really are a nuisance you know. I merely wish to start a discussion of the possibility of dynamic quests in the future and what opportunities may arise from this.
  14. I am no she. You are correct though. You will notice that now the rule-breaking elements are gone! It does severely limit the impact of my post but I thought I should spread the word regardless.
  15. That is what will cause my thread to be locked.
  16. I beleive that I have found out what the empty tab will be used for. Around the release of RS2 dynamic quests (or were mentioned in a news post. Well I think this is what Jagex have in store. Dynamic quests (Or a "custom mission system" some might say). If you want more information I would be quite happy to give you further information, including an explanation of my reasoning behind this idea, via email (Or any other practical means you wish). So what do you think? Dynamic quests FTW? EDIT: For those who do not know what mean by "dynamic quest": Essentially I am talking about quests which are randomly generated for a specific player or group of players tailored to their specific wants, stats and experience. Basically a quest that is custom made specifically for you. My thinking is that once you have started one of these custom quests the objective for it would appear in the objectives tab (That's the blank tab) for you to follow. Once you've finished it you could go back and start a new one which would be completely unique.
  17. It could be the introduction of the dynamically generated, campaigns/quests that were mentioned around the launch of RS2. The tab interface could hold information, hints etc. for your current dynamic quest and the marker would be like a normal quest marker icon only for these special, randomly generated quests.
  18. I wasn't even wearing rune. I was wearing some adamant stuff with a rune scimmy.
  19. I could see how that would be a problem, but, and pardon my ignorance again, isn't this what entangle is for? If he's standing there with no armor, can't you entangle him and then either dds or claw him to death? I'm F2P and don't have the magic level nor the runes to cast entangle.
  20. This isn't duel arena. I needn't have to conform to any rules. I should be able to fight however I wish.
  21. I'm no pvp expert, but can't you just kill them? Well this guy decided that whenever I would try he would run into higher level multi-combat wilderness and get his team to destroy me. 5 v 1 isn't cool.
  22. I'm no pvp expert, but can't you just kill them? This. If he wants to be a whiny [bleep], barrage him and then range him to death. That'd be kinda hard what with my level 1 Range  Exactly. For some reason they think they can just tell you the "rules" and you will conform.
  23. Yeah that happened to me too  It's annoying because I thought I might start playing a bit more regularly now that PvP is more interesting.
  24. What is it with the players in Bounty Hunter who complain when you try and attack them with armour just because they have no defence whatsoever? I just had a target who would refuse to fight me unless I took off my armour saying it was "unfair". How is it unfair that I bothered to raise my levels and buy some armour to use for this exact purpose? Fools! How do you deal with these people? So annoying.
