Bow or Shield?

Rune crossbow with broad bolts is more effective and cheaper.

Its power is comparable to that of broad bolts, but far more expensive. And it's two-handed.

So I can use it if I wish, since it isnt a huge downside..

I have to choose one

Crystal bow is better at DK's (allowing you to wear a prayer cape = 5% or higher prayer for next to no cost), long distance pk'ing (longest range of any weapon if I remember rightly) and a few other situations.

 

Crystal shield is good anywhere you need range defense, again DK's are high up there as it barrows tanking bandos (without guthans), avis and so on.

 

 

 

The only issue is the degrading, but the bow is cheap for the ammo and the shield lasts forever (over 6 hours at DK's and still only on 8/10).

Crystal bow is a good Pk-ing weapon, or so i've heard. I like using a Crystal bow at aviansies since it has a decent Ranged Str bonus and its faster than a Rune Xbow. The shield is also a very good choise if you havent got the money for a dfs. Shield works wonders at Aviansies although a BSS would be better. All in all i would go with the bow since it provides you with EXP, so its not a complete waste of money. And once you have recharged the Bow enough times it becomes much cheaper aking it much more worth it.

I like bows. And I like tanking, so I need a good shield.

 

I dont think I can choose, though I still have a while to decide.

Before crossbow update the crystal bow was worth it. Now, it isn't.

 

Crystal shield was always quite... Useless, now more than ever.

Crystal shield is a cheaper alternative to DFS, although I wouldn't recommend it.

 

 

 

So, crystal bow has more uses.

It still has it's uses, but to be anything near worth it, you MUST use the Crystal bow trick so you stay at +100 range bonus. Otherwise...well, who wants to use an expensive bow that only gives +64? So use the trick and you're fine.

 

 

 

I would take the shield. I think it's the best ranged defense in the game, but not sure on that. It's the best shield for runecrafting since it is really light.

 

 

 

Also, you can fully degrade a c shield in minutes if you stand in Lumby dungeon without a light source. This way, you can full degrade a bunch of shields, then recharge them to get the recharge cost down (shields are cheaper to recharge than bows and they both function on the same base cost).
