partition drive

i just bought a new laptop and it only has only one drive

i am trying to divide it so that there is a lot more room in the new drive (D) than C drive.

i went through the usual vista partition process that i learned off google. but for some reason, i only can partition 74GB. I checked C drive. it has 220 gb and only used 32 gb. I am trying to get 140gb in d drive and the rest in c drive.

I'd avoid anything Norton if I was you. It could be that some of your files are fragmented and perhaps scattered around the drive. Try de-fragmenting with Defraggler (much better than the windows one) then give it another try.

It might be the MFT (Master File Table). If I recall correctly, there's always some MFT at the middle of the partition/drive. The window's partitionner can't move that.
