new computer requierments -edit-

I will soon be getting a sum of money, but I'm trying not to spend 2,000$ for a computer with more memory than I could ever use.

So the main questions are how much RAM and hard drive space would I need to run runescape effectively in HD. Also how much what kind of processor would be good enough. My current computer is currently only 28 gigabytes with about 10 in free space so I am used to lagging out playing in low-def with all options turn to the min.

Also any information on laptops with these requirements would obviously be nicer than the tower alternative. But I'm not sure if I want to spend money on a laptop with 45 minutes of battery life, and is quite a bit slower.(note if I do get a laptop I've heard they don't last for very long compared to desktops so would one be worth getting if I am expecting to use it at least 3-5 years?)

I'm not really super interested in getting a huge monitor for a new computer but if the monitor is also part of being able to run HD, about how good of a monitor should I get so it can work.

thats all for now I think but I might update later with more questions.

edit 1.

Yes I am from the US I forgot to mention that.

And My budget is 2500$ but I also have a few other things I plan on getting.(Trying to get a new computer and a wii with a few games in all that shouldn't be to hard)

And also I would obviously prefer a laptop over a desktop because I plan on enrolling in a collage after my senior year only I don't know to much about battery life or how well they work because I have barely ever used them. And how long can a laptop expect to last because the ones in my high school are maybe 3 years old an over half of them do not work.

I currently have a somewhat limited access to a 320gig hard drive with only 1 gig in memory, and that seems to run the new rs decently and I was wondering if that is to much different from HD, because if its not I'd prefer to save as much as possible.

And as for a monitor I'd just like to know if I can still use a normal one for HD or if I need some specific requierments on that end as well.

And thanks for all the help so far, my 1st instinct was to look at best buy and they were saying this new one with a terabyte in memory and 8 gigs in ram was what I was looking for for 1,200$.

Actually, nowadays any computers can run RSHD with full details, except those on integrated intel graphics cards. Even though the desktops cost less, most laptops enter in your budget (is that what that 2000 is? although computer prices are far from this amount nowadays).

You are right when you say that laptops last less than desktops, though, because of the heat factor, but it's not too much of a difference.

Do you want a desktop or a laptop?

Well, here's two options:

Desktop: http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=426 ... ure=NCIXPC

Laptop [hide=Laptop]wwlsux.png[/hide]

Both are pretty price-worthy in my mind.

Edit:

Desktop - You can call and ask them to put 4gb memory in instead.

And since you didn't say country i just assumed USA.

The harddrive doesn't really matter for any sort of gaming. Ram, cpu and gpu matters.

The laptop i posted will run RSHD without a problem. Also light gaming (obviously you can't play Far Cry 2 on highest settings on it..). To get a gaming laptop i guess it would be around 1000$.

Battery time: Call and ask them.

Monitor doesn't matter. Tho that would be for a desktop computer then.

1tb, 8gb... For Runescape? Lol.

Ok let me ask: What is your budget for your computer? What do you want to do with it - RS, or more "serious" gaming?

The better performance the laptop has, the less battery time you will have.

And btw, post a reply instead of an edit of your original post (people often miss first post edits).

You would only need ~2GB of RAM to use a computer comfortably. If you plan on getting Windows 7, remember that at this current stage it only supports up to 3GB of RAM on a 32-bit system. Hard drive space isn't really that much of an issue, but around 500GB would be a comfortable size to store all of your stuff.

A good CPU is generally above 2.4GHz dual-core or above 2.0GHz quad core. Up until last week, my CPU was a 1.8GHz dual-core. I've upgraded now to 2.8GHz dual-core.

Get a good graphics card; an Nvidia GeForce 8600 or 9600 are relatively cheap but perform extremely well (My GeForce 9600GT can play Battlefield 2 in excess of 100FPS, RuneScape only supports up to 50FPS). Like someone said above, integrated Intel cards are bad for gaming, and some motherboards don't have integrated graphics (my new motherboard which was required for the CPU upgrade doesn't have integrated graphics). It's also a good idea to use HDMI or DVI video cables.

As for monitor, any modern monitor will do. Don't use a TV, the pixels are smaller and sitting close to one like a computer monitor can be harmful to your health.

If you're going to get a laptop for college, get a Macbook Pro - battery life is around 5 hours (7 hours claim, but let's be realistic here).

Good idea I've never posted a lot here mostly I read and post if I know more than what everyone else is posting already. Not very active either I just lurk 90% of the time

Also ty for the laptop I'm going to start going to stores and looking for the memory and graphic cards like you posted earlier, maybe not that much memory since I don't keep much on my computers for long.(I feel like anything I don't need slows me down.)
