Gin_and_Tonic
I had some luck last night and managed 5m in like two clues, so im thinking about using Fire Bolt and Metals for magic as alching is now ridiculously expensive, rewards are nothing and yeah, just tragic - plus i'd like some hitpoints xp :D What set-up would work best for 70 mage/defence? I have void and chaos gauntlets, but i was going to use gaunts and other armour as you can hit higher... What other armour would work best? I need 42k bolts (avg. from tif calculator which does not factor in gauntlets), so could anyone make an avg. as to how many i might be able to kill? I know this is a hard to answer question, but someone might have done it before... And most importantly... Will it actually be worth it? I mean, im 70 mage, but i was hoping with decent mage armour it might work. Thanks alot in advance. I have about 11m to work with but i dont want it all used up on armour. Zeltax
When I bolted for slayer some time ago (before blocking -.-) I used around 40-50 bolts per Iron dragon, and 50-60 on Steels. Do the calculations. And as far as gear go, I simply used mystic, mage boots (wizard boots?), glory and lava staff. Don't forget you anti-fire shield :PAnd if you use antifire pots you won't take any dmg at all as long as you stay ouf of melee range. "Will it actually be worth it?" I ended up making some money using this, but i got some dragon drops, so I don't know how you would end up without that kind of luck. Remember, remember, the fifth of November... Gin_and_Tonic
Hmm, well i just did 2k casts while waiting for responses, using mystic/gaunts and i just managed 63k xp and 10k hitpoints xp. I spent roughly 300k and made in drops 100k... 200k loss for two hours work, in which time i could have alched 1k bows for the same xp and spent the other hour at greens making the loss back. Its entirely based on luck i know, and i did only do 2k bolts, but for now i think my best bet would be alching.
Zeltax
Basicly, it all comes down to what you enjoy doing. "It's just a game" is what I usually think, and when it start to feel like a chore, i do something funnier, even if it means smaller profit, or loss. That's why i used to mage dragons for slayer. I've done well over 40k casts total, and for me It would start off the same, I loose money. But then I'd get a dragon drop and be at the break even point, and this happened over and over and over. If you look at things on a larger scale, you don't loose money, and if you do, it's a LOT less than that of alching. Maybe I just got lucky, but I'd go with irons instead of alching, and if your not lucky, at least it's fun. :) As far as gear goes: Farseer helmAhrim's bodyAhrim's skirtInfinity bootsMaster wandChaos gauntletsAnti-Dragonfire shieldMTA God capeAmulet of FurySeers ring (i)
Gin_and_Tonic
For the set-up, fury is impossible to buy in GE so i could borrow off a mate i guess. Ahrims seems very, very expensive now for some reason... But it is the best magic armour so i guess i should probably buy it if i intend to stay there a while. Going to stick with a good old air staff for now as fires are much cheaper to buy. Ill stick with ring of wealth for now, DFS is way above my budget. Is infinity worth using as an alternative to ahrims? I lose abot +10 on attack, but i dont need to reapair and it is much cheaper.

Ring of Wealth is fine, but it honestly wont help. I didn't say DFS, I said Anti-Dragonfire shield. +10 magic bonus makes a huge difference, especially at level 70. Yes, even at level 99, with extreme pots, and prayer, 10 bonus makes a MASSIVE difference. Oh, and Atreyu ftw.
shawn3090
It's been a LONG time since I last maged steels (let's just say that dragon platelegs were still 2m), but I'll try and help... Take the highest mage bonus you can with an elemental staff (that extra inventory spot really helps). Also, take chaos gauntlets. You should take around 3k-4k casts per trip, but when I did it, I teled upon getting a set of legs so I could sell them for better gear (like Ahrim's). I don't know if the drop rate has been changed or what, but I made loads of money when I did steels. (4 d legs in 5k casts = around 7.2m profit back then) At the current price of dragon platelegs, I don't know if you'll profit at all. EDIT: I had just reached 70 mage when I started this. yuyu13
I made profit when I bolted them, but I didn't do it for very long and managed to get a skirt, med helm, and visage, so..... I don't know if you will profit without these items.
