Starting a clan

Featured Replies

lacing together a topic for noobs like me that want to know how to put together a clan.

Read... Setttt... POST!

I would join one ultimatly first. If you don't have good experience in being a member then your clan will lack the correct leadership. I'd just sit back and enjoy it and try and be as helpful as possible. If you get ranked then you're..

A. Gaining tons of knowledge and it's showing

B. Get to see more behind the scenes which could help give you ideas on how a clan is run

C. You gain respect/ a name for yourself? With out too many people knowing you, or having no clanning experience people will doubt you and may not join.

Once you have knowledge I would start making your base of members out of friends. Then aim to have them recruit atleast one of their friends to join. I'd set up the following as well:

-Forums

-Memberlist

-IRC

-Audio [ Teamspeak or Ventrilo ]

-Graphics

From there I'd start making some structure and rules / application process etc. Clans go wrong and allow multiclanning. Sure they may become good but at a certain point you will kick them due to being flamed/bugged about it etc. Plus they aren't the most loyal members and would easily leave if you slumped. Or they may just miss events due to their 'main' clan.

You'll obviously need help and should have some more respectable, honnest, helpful people. Have some one in charge of apps, or getting wars, or leading the wars.

From there you'll want to do some matched opts fights and see where you're at. Eventually you will switch to +/- fights, Full out, CWRI/PKRI.

It's a lot harder than you think to run and manage a successful clan. So if you do plan on making one I hope you're ready to dedicate tons of hours, and be willing to learn some new stuff about being organized/managing stuff. People will be troublesome etc and you have to have everyone on same page.

Good Luck.

Do yourself a favor and read up about principles of leadership. As much as we like to disregard it, the people we play with are, in fact, people. The fundamentals of leadership are universal, and therefore can be applied to any sort of structure out there.

Not everyone is a leader. The only way you'll find out if you are or not, though, is if you try. So try.

It's hard, it's miserable, and it's a thankless job. But when you do it right, and you do it well, the feeling of satisfaction and the friendships you make are indescribable.

Not going to repeat much else; I believe Dandaman gave you some of the best information out there. It's a process, and it first helps to get experience within an established clan structure.

You need a dedicated leader who will sacrifice his personal life for the clan and a core group of dedicated members.

With love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.

To be honest, you should try joining a clan first, and see how well you are doing.

And Dan also has most of the information, but also don't forget to allocate time in your schedule to your clan, and lead by example :)
