I changed my display name from Moad14 to Aufblitzen on October 1, 2009. I expected the swirl next to my name, which still recognizes that I used to be Moad14, to disappear quickly. However, after over three months, I still retain the swirl. Now, before simple assuming that the waiting time is longer than three months, many of my friends who changed their names at a later date than mine to something completely different have already shed their past aliases. Why is this? Is there something I can do to finally shed the Moad14 next to my name? How do the display name rules work?

i believe that the longer you have your old name the longer you have to switch back to it.

 

i am not sure how long you will have to wait but once the swirl goes away your old name will be up for grabs.

 

the most likely reason that your friends got rid of theirs first is because they have had those names a much shorter time.

i think it depends on how many times you have changed your name?

as i have changed from

Flubber59 to le pickles to TzTokPickles

and mine no longer says formerly le pickles, that i know of.

try changing to a diff name then back?

Well, I've only changed my name the one time. A good portion of my friends also changed names only once, and many of those already have lost the swirl, whereas I retain mine.

My best guess is it has something to do with how many of your friends have been online since you changed it. Maybe you have a bunch of friends who haven't had a chance to see the change in your name so it's keeping the swirl for them.

You can change your name to Aufblitzen again, which won't get rid of the 'swirl' next to your name on friends lists, but it will change the "last known as" to Aufblitzen.

I didn't know that was an option without switching to something else and back; maybe I'll do that, thanks.

I thought you didn't see it unless you were someone's friend? If they add you after you change your name, I don't think the swirl is next to it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
