PereGrin
I was fighting metal dragons a while back and i was using bgs special on them to lower defense. I noticed that with a regular antifire potion and mage prayer, I still took damage from dragonbreath. The same happened with range prayer and antifire pot. I think their "ranged" breath actually falls under the catagory of dragonfire because it did not appear that you could protect against it with prayer. I may be wrong, but i will go back tonight and test it out again. Perhaps a few others could also to verify what I experienced.
theroyiel
I'm getting ready for a steel task atm, I tend to range them. but I'll try and do what you did and ive some feedback later. :) [
Loffelicious
It is true that their breath deals damage to you without the shield, even with antifire pot. That is the normal ones. But damage is somewhat reduced by the potion. If you wish to kill dragons with a 2-handed weapon you'll have to use super/extreme(not sure which is right) antifire potions :) Skeletal wyvern guide: 100-150 crimsons per hour and PROFIT
K4ylan
Are you fighting Mithril Dragons? Because mithril dragons have ranged, melee, mage, and dragonfire . All other metal dragons just have a melee and dragonfire attack. Dragonfire is NOT nullified by protection prayers at all. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
Cantristenon
Dragonfire attacks used to be negated with mage pray+ antifire pot. However, I think it got changed quickly after they released mithril dragons since people were "abusing" it there.

That would be their close range breath. Anti-fire pots do reduce damage you take from the ranged breath of metal dragons, but from what I have experienced, the ranged version disregards prayer completely and you can only negate it with anti-dragonbreath shield and anti-fire pot. Or super anti-fire if you are high enough herblore.

This is correct; you must either equip a dragonfire/anti-dragon shield while drinking an antifire potion or simply drink an extreme antifire potion to fully protect against the effects of dragonfire. If I remember correctly, activating the 'Protect from Magic' prayer will mitigate the damage inflicted somewhat, but only to an extent (having a high Agility level has a similar effect, I believe). I'll close this thread, since it doesn't appear that any corrections are necessary. :) Interested in helping the Tip.It Crew? Check out our Website Updates & Corrections Board!
