wingwinder
discuss. i think that video games aren't harmful, besides the occasional addiction, or sitting in one spot for a large period of time could be unhealthy. Not quite sure when the media came up with the rumor of "Video games are dangerous for your kids!!!" now whenever i tell people that for the most part my free time is video games, they look at me like i'm insane. Alg
I dunno, that Wii controller is lookin' at me funny.... Guitar Hero is going to make me go out and murder someone. Same with Pokemon. The only shooter I play Is Mass Effect, and I play paragon characters (talk it out rather than going all blasty). Not every game is Grand Theft Auto. And not every gamer is Charles Manson. If you can't tell the difference between the game and reality you probably shouldn't be playing the game anyway. Personally I play them because reality is boring... I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
Demoli
The wiimote is looking funny being the only white controller in the middle (even though a black controller was released) but i agree with the message, there is no concrete evidence that gaming leads to murder or any mental disability. If anything, videogames have improved my reflexes, memory and deductional thinking aswell as 3d visualising (discriptive geometry)
TheValeyard
I think if you let an emotionally/mentally disturbed child play say Manhunt at the age of 10 then yes it probably would have consequences. But then the culpability lies with whoever allowed that child to play an 18 rated game, not the game developers. An ordinary kid would be able to tell the difference between real life and a video game, there are always outside factors. I love how scaremongers have called for violent games to be banned but say nothing about films like SAW for example. Sure you aren't doing anything yourself but an actual live action film to me is probably worse than a game, where graphics can only look so real. obfuscator
Nothing wrong with adults and teens playing video games...its when little kids play violent games that it has detrimental affects to their upbringing. Zierro
I hate when people blame problems on inanimate objects like drugs, video games, movies, music, etc. when really the only thing to blame would be the things who are consciously making the choice to do bad things (people). It CAN have some harmful effects on them if they're not ready for it. Still, even children have a grasp on what is acceptable in video games and what is not in real life. As for video games turning teens and adults into killers, well that's absolute crap. Unless the games you enjoy are like, REALLY, REALLY dark. And you're already a bit messed up to begin with. Albel
Nothing wrong with adults and teens playing video games...its when little kids play violent games that it has detrimental affects to their upbringing.Could not have been said better. Children (around 7-13) should not be playing games such as Call of Duty or Mass effect. It could effect their upbringing. But mostly this falls to the sholders of the parents. The parents sould not allow their children to play games that they are old enough for. This however is just my opinion though. Ice_and_Spec
Games aren't harmful, you should be able to control yourself in society, and if games make you unable to do that, than yeah there can be a problem, but to the average person, gaming isn't harmful, unless sitting there for hours upon end, than yes it might become harmful, then again that'd be there own fault..
