Money Drain Idea: Currency Exchange

I got this idea after thinking about the various forms of runescape currany (gp, tokku's, tree sticks) and how often in order to get a decent amount of them, you need to sell thousands of chaos or death.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So what i propose is that jagex makes some places or nps that deal with currency exchange. Say for every 10 gp i trade him i get 1 tokku. And for every 10 tokku i trade him i get 50gp. This way money is being taken out of the game without doing harm to the economy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'll update it later with more ideas because i dont feel like making a huge post about it as of now :P

The thought is creative, but I'm not sure this would really improve the economy. In fact, I could see the opposite happening. It seems like something JAGeX would have to consider for a LONG time before it was implemented. You know, to foresee any economical problems. Ah...(partyhats)....choo!

Firstly, who said 10 million gp? I know i didn't. Secondly, the fact that you lose gp in the process is the point..but you shouldn't exactly be trading and retrading the guy should you? Also the currency loss is not definate or set for now.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also some "noobs" happen to use the various new weapons that originally cost tokku to buy, such as that ever popular shield with the +5 strength bonus. Provided they add more weapons that can be purchased with tokku (which they probably will since they are semi-popular), players will find themselves juggling the various currencies. This can lead to scammers who will mislead players on the various exchange rates. If jagex sets some rates, it would be for the players advantage.

I the idea isn't really ment to drastically improve the economy, but rather to curb the amount of gp coming into the economy daily. I also dont really see it harming the economy. Should this take huge sums of gp out of the ecomony, to the point where p hats drop in prices, it wouldn't really matter as tokku and tree sticks are tradeable. I could trade my red party hat for 30M gp and say 5M tokku and provided if it is implemented right, it still would hold the same worth that it currently does.

I don't see the use of multiple currencies at all if there would be fixed exchange rates between them, which would serve as a distinguished money drain. Most trades would take place between the NPC-buy and NPC-sell price anyway and, depending on the usefulness of the second currency, it's market price will approach either the NPC-buy or the NPC-sell price.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If it approaches the NPC-buy price, the currency is unpopular and it will not drain anything at all (in fact, it will create GP).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If it approaches the NPC-sell price, the currency apparently is popular and thus (as you said yourself already) will just be accepted as 'normal' currency, thus the 'worth' of 'currency' in game does not drop at all. The only way it really 'drains' then is because of expensive items in a shop which requires this second currency. However, we don't need a second currency to put expensive items in a shop - so the same result could be reached much easier...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So my conclusion: It's pointless to introduce a new second currency which would work like you suggested for the reasons you named, because the currency is basically equal to the GP.

I know that there is a whopping 1 inch gap in between the space bar and shift key and god forbid you strain your pinkie, but please show an ion of intelligence while replying to a post. I mean didn't you go to an institution of learning to figure out how to form a proper sentence? By the way a period here and there couldn't hurt either.

most likely jagex wont do that. you got to remember that the bwannos and the tzhaar demons have no use for coins like civilized humans. its all part of the storyline and keeping with the different cultures. its bad in a way, because it makes getting stuff difficult, but it could be worse. could you imagine the nightmare if the dwarvs and gnomes also took only their own currncy? most of the game npcs accept gold coins, and for logical reasons, but in a way it makes sense that different civilizations have different forms of currency

well we get are toku by buying stuff for gp and reselling it in their shops for toku. the npc could work like that he could buy stuff from others and resell it. it may be 2x more exspencive however many rich players would do it unsteed of going sell 10 iron sell 10 iron sell 10 iron. a very good idea btw

im not too sure if trading sticks are tradible but i know that toku are not tradible so it wont confuse people btw did you know the bigger writing makes it easer to read and posibly may help people that have english as a second language.

I'm fine with cutting people slack who are not native English speakers. In fact, I'm glad to help. When I was working on my Spanish in Miami, I depended on people cutting me slack and helping me.

Guess what? I dont really like the idea of 2nd currency's either, but provided jagex updates the game in places like the tzaar fight pits, it is inevitable that they will be used more.

But they wouldn't necessarily run the exchange. Wouldn't it be more fitting in the jagex storyline for one of their merchants like miles to come in and run it? As obviously as a "merchant" npc, he would be "making" money.

Pure currency exchange is worse IMO. The way it is now, it *isn't a distinguished money-drain (which we don't need a second currency for like I pointed out), but it's turning chaos runes into a currency (and draining chaos runes) - not much wrong with that. And there isn't anything wrong with people buying these chaos runes?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

*true: people do buy chaos runes for gp in stores, but at least chaos are the intermediate good and it's not just gp for different gp which you then use to buy an item with.
