Deathscythe
While I was mining and smithing Mithril I kind of dawned on me whose bright idea was this to make us mine 4,6, or 8 coal rocks to get one Mithril, Adamant or Runite bar? I understand that we need coal in all but why so many?

Back then, mining and smithing were the only way to get good armour. Or atleast on some extent. It was considered as the best moneymaker at high levels by far. But this was back in classic. So that leaves them very outdated, though you can still make money out of them. "An Amateur practices until he can get it right. A Professional practices until he can't get it wrong." Lacoste
You have low mining and smithing levels, so it's not like you have an understanding of what its like to smith things of higher quality. Anyways I don't really know what you are ranting about...

Youmu
What do you F2P players pay? Nothing. I mean..It's not like you just got A WHOLE NEW SKILL or something..We don't care if we pay anything or not. What we DO care, though, is when members like you stereotype us F2P with this kind of garbage. Anyways, on to the topic at hand. Well, it's not like mining the coal is a bad thing either. In fact, this gives you an incentive to mine more coal and stuff. Since Dungeoneering I actually enjoy training smithing now. The screen starts to turn purple. To the OP, it shouldn't matter because there is neither rhyme nor reason to smelt mithril or anything above that. If you're going to smelt, go for gold (actually, I don't know if that's the best in f2p, but mithril is still worse), or try smithing addy bars. applyapple
Meh. Way too much has become outdated. The potential to obtain mithril gear easily was a wonder when I started playing 5 years ago. Now I finally can, and my dragon longsword is outdated! Ummmmmm.....................Not much to say. If you want to find me in Runescape, my name is not applyapple. It is vetoscadiva. Complain as you like about Jagex, but think about what they've done. How many MMORPG designers go around to creating as complex an in-game world as Jagex? They do need to get around to making a equipable knife, though. With everyone's complaining about updates, it's amzing that there isn't a forum topic on the fact that the chat box says "You can't reach that" (as opposed to "I can't reach that!"). Nomrombom
Point is, high level bars used to make high level equipment that costs more should cost more to make as well. So, simplest solution? Need more coal per bar. Simple. PM me for fitocracy invite

Need more coal per bar. Simple. Not to mention, it probably would have looked just a bit strange if the higher level ores had the same smelting requirements as the lower levels. Not that I don't sometimes get irritated at the higher amounts of coal. But that's usually when I'm starting to run low the stuff and still have a ways to go.
