Scroll of Life is a SCAM

Featured Replies

Today I bought a scroll of life. It was perhaps the biggest mistake I've made yet.

First of all, it's astronomical price. 10k tokens. It isn't worth 10k tokens currently, MAYBE you can say it's worth 2k, as much as the gem bag, which is far more useful. Secondly, there is no way to refund it. In fact, there's no way for you to refund any dungeoneering rewards. Why not? Why can't it be like Mobilising Armies? What if Jagex totally screws up a reward, like this one, and you want your money make?

Sure the scroll disappears. So what? Be able to sell it back and take away the power. Doesn't need to make sense. Just make it work -.-

The description is INCREDIBLY misleading.

when clearing any dead farming patches, you have a 10% chance of receiving your seeds back. There is also a 5% chance of getting a tree seed back from a dead tree.

What does this lead you to believe? "Oh, whenever I harvest a snapdragon patch, 10% of the time I get a snapdragon seed back! Cool!"

You couldn't be more wrong. First of all, it rarely activates when you harvest a living patch. I suspect it's something with the coding. When you harvest a living patch, when exactly should the effect activate?

Also, when the effect DOES activate, you aren't guaranteed the seed you planted...today I dug up a dead torstol patch. Guess what the scroll of fail gave me? A SPIRIT WEED SEED. Are you kidding me???

Perhaps I am not waiting long enough and am not giving the item enough chances. But from what I've seen, enough is enough. DO NOT buy this item. It's TOTALLY worthless and overpriced. It will not give you a single worthwhile benefit. I repeat. DO NOT buy the scroll of life! Get yourself a nice gem bag or save up from an Arcane Necklace. Go nowhere near this item until Jagex fixes it to actually be worthwhile.

You do realise the description clearly says for clearing a DEAD patch, not for harvesting a living patch.

However the getting spirit weed seed for dead torstol seems bugged.

I know one guy who has one and absolutely loves it. The spirit weed seed is probably a bug.

Paw, they clarified last week that it works on living patches as well.

QFC?

And this seems wrong since I've yet to see or hear of anyone have it work on a living patch.

As Zaaps said it has done nothing on his living patches.

I suspect a J Mod not on tht project getting facts wrong OR a jmod saying it will be changed being misconstrued.

Yes it's supposed to work on living patches. But either it isn't or I'm just getting really unlucky.

Either way, I want torstol seeds when I farm torstol patches -.-

Paw: it's in last week's patch notes in Recent Updates. Or go to the rewards dude and read the description, you'll see it's changed. (The KB is not, though.)

10% is not 1 every 10 patches - it means every time you harvest one, you have a 1 in 10 shot of getting a seed back - so it's very random.

I love this scroll - on one of my snapdragon herb runs, I got 40 herbs and 2 seeds back. On average one in two or three herb runs will get a seed back, but since seeds are so expensive, it's definitely worth it. The fact that dead patches return the wrong herb is a bug, I believe. But even if it only worked on living herbs, it's still great and pays for itself really quickly.

Besides, at higher levels, 10k tokens is only about 3 or 4 floors of work.

I've done a total of 8 herb runs, and the effect has only activated twice. Both were spirit weed seeds when I farmed torstols... :\

Yeah, I got a ranarr seed back from a wergali seed last week, so I guess it's a bug. But I, and probably others have sent in a bug report for it, so It will probably be fixed soon. :)

As for the chance of it happening: The first week I was getting seeds back all the time, before I even knew it was supposed to give back from living patches, so I dropped all of the seeds I got, in fear of being banned for bug abuse. Now after this, I've barely got any seeds. But this just shows how probability works. 1 in 10 simply means an average of 1 in 10. :)

I find this to be a very useful thing to buy. And 10,000 tokens isn't really that expensive anyway. :)

Its a scam just like the nature staff supposedly was

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

What ever happened to that one? Anything revealed?

Yea, just get torstol seed from dead ranar.

it was revealed that it actually saved you a small amount of money. Anyway, getting different seeds is probably a bug, and 10k tokens is pretty cheap.

scroll is single best reward for skill. Torstol farming is astounding now, getting herbs plus a free seed from a patch is amazing profit. You get a random seed back from dead patches but it's getting identical seeds back from the live patches that make this such an amazing item. Longterm this scroll is worth an absolutely massive amount of profit, I have no idea why anyone wouldn't want it.

P.S.

10k tokens is nothing
