Lep
Just got my computer back after 1 month because my motherboard fried itself from a power surge I guess. Everything is exactly the same besides the desktop background, screen size and some missing updates but I fixed all that. I'm pretty sure my computer got an upgrade from what it previously was as well. However, have just realized that my sound doesn't work. I've been browsing the internet for 2 hours on solutions and it's still not working. Help? I am running a gateway vista computer.
Giordano
This happens to me all the time when I reformat. Search for the audio producer and model your computer uses (should be somewhere in your control panel under Audio or Hardware Properties) and Google for it's drivers. Download them and install and it should be good. Finding the correct audio producer/model is the hardest part, and I don't know EXACTLY where you can find out. So sorry for the vagueness. Solartide
Ah, it's good to see a thread not cluttered up with bad advice, instead one with a solid solution.
OldJoe
Most mobos are realtek audio. If you don't have the mobo name (+name code), download cpu-z: Open - Mainboard - Manufacturer/Model. Then check at the manufacturers homepage for the audio driver to your mobo. Solartide
Right click my computer, go to manage. Under that, go to device manager. Are there any unknown devices?
Lep
I managed to get it installed and my speaker icon finally doesn't say "No audio device installed". However, even though the volume thing is now there and I turned volume to maximum, I still hear nothing. What now? There are no unknowns either Highlighting the icon says:Volume: 100SpeakersVIA High Definition Audio
