Is it possible to check FPS and/or ping on RS?

 

I've been lagging on F2p pking worlds where the screen just freezes for 5-7 seconds and I keep getting killed... really annoying :(

I think the world's ping is displayed in the Lobby. I'm not sure about FPS though - if there is a way, it'd be really useful.

There is an illegal against-the-rules way to check FPS that I won't mention here.

I'm getting 70+ ping on each world... but I have pretty fast internet so I'm confused (5mpbs) :(

70 ping ain't that bad.

Yes, 70 ping is not bad, considering game "ticks" are 600ms or so.

Like said above 70 ping isn't bad at all.

Just a general scale:

 

1-50 Ping = Amazing Connection

50-100 Ping = Good Connection

100-150 = Moderate Connection

150-200 = Bad Connection

200+ = Very Bad Connection

 

As far as lag goes there are 2 types of lag. Server based lag and Player based lag.

 

Sever lag dosen't really have anything to do with your ping rate and will lag you as a user regardless if you are 1 ping or 200+ ping. A lower ping in this case will only mean you wont lag quite as long since your recovery time will be quicker.

 

A player lag is when you have a high ping rate on your end due to lack of connection, slow internet, or internet traffic. How far the server is from your location also has an impact on how good/bad your ping rate is. Anything below 100 ping is excellent and likley will produce no lag at all (except server lag). Anything from 100-150 is ok, and could shoot sudden small lag spike bursts from time to time, but is playable. Anything 150-200+ can be very annoying and be anything from constant small lag spikes to long bursts of disconnection from the server.

 

So try to pick one that is 100 or less, or at worst 150 or less.

I use fraps to check FPS and you can check ping by getting your world number and typing this in command prompt: "ping world#.runescape.com". It is the same as the world pings they display but you can get a live ping. I wrote a script for my g15 keyboard which gets my ping.

Does this method happen to include modifying the client and allowing youself to use the ::fpson/::fpsoff commands in the admin console you can activate by pressing "~"?(after modifying the client of course)

This must be what I have. This sucks, means I can't PK anymore. I've died like 3 times due to lag on World 32; the screen just freezes (doesn't say loading) for about 7 seconds which is long enough for anyone to KO ...

 

How do you edit Fraps for RS fps?
