The Runescape Moneylender

Featured Replies

I think that this would be an excellent idea for Jagex to add to runescape. This is how I think it should work. Runescape Bank will give you a loan (a maximum amount will be set based on your credibility) and you can select a time when you want to repay the monny. Interest will build by 0.05% per day. If you fail to have enough money to pay back the loan, then the bank will remove items of equivelent vlaue from your bank. Any left over money will be automatically be taken out as you place items in the bank.

how about you get loan then every gp you earn till it =s loan amount+ intrest.

I am reminded of this story

---- The Decline Of Jagex ----

Note: I dont hate jagex, just something i started typing to my friend in game and thought it was funny.

in a time where runescapers were in an interactive rpg game, with hundreds of quests and skills, it seemed as if nothing could go wrong. but then, all of these quote "updates" started coming. People were over joyed however they knew not that the endless swarm of them would come to be found, "not fun" and "stupid"

This is the story.

At the runescape headquarters...

"Alright, were running out of ideas. So we've decided to resort to the last straw, loans."

"Loans? like real money loans?"

"no, i mean in the runescape bank. players will be able to take out loans. hundreds will flock to the game to get their hands on the precious gp!"

"ah excellent tom!"

so the jagex team installed the loan package, soon after, every player had about an average of 100 mil. it was such a terrible crisis, even dragon and the newer armours had been rendered worthless now, nothing was worth selling, and everything was bought, rune stores and other stores had players from all over trying to get their hands on the items they sold. Jagex had to take action by making a new armour.

"Alright, jim, were not looking so hot here. We need a new armour."

"Yeah, hmm.. how about the purple armour?"

"purple? honestly jim! be creative!"

"ok ok... how about... hmm what rhymes with rune.... uhh... prune!"

"yes thats it! the prune armour! we can put it in stores right away!"

"fraid not, tom, we need to have them kill a monster for it!"

"oh of course, how about the prune dragon? make it in the wilderness?"

"yes yes! this months behind the scenes can be, dragons!"

"alright, you make more quests leading up to this and ill get the final one ready!"

"right!"

So they made the prune dragon, and it was level 675, since everybody had the best stuff, jagex suffered many people who quit the game. mainly because most were killed from the dragon. Afterwards, jagex sat in a cafe along side sega and atari, and lived happily ever after.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I appreciate the creativity, but I don't think this is gonna work. It sounds like an easy way for players to make use of gp they haven't earned yet. Also, how would it be decided what items are taken in the case of an unpaid loan?

Owned

Perhaps you can only loan up to the same amount as your current treasury?

So if you have 100 gold pieces, you can only loan a maximum of 100 gold pieces.

And if you don't pay off your loan at a certain time, the moneylender will send an assassin to kill you... the assassin is like a random event, but it appears at anytime and VERY frequently. Its level depends on yours. It also has the ability to run (so you can't outrun it), and it chases you for a long time.

Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims.

So if you have 20 million, you can take out 20 million? That's doubling your money, and that sounds like too much for RS. In RL, you get a loan for *more* than you have, yes, but you also show "proof" that you can pay it off. How would JAGeX keep track of that?

Also, the assasin does not work for me. There should be no chance to get out of this if you were trying to dupe the system. I think you shoud have to put up specific collateral (you pick the items), which you'd lose immediately and unconditionally if you did not pay up.

I still don't like the idea, tho :)

lpinkus

(Just my idea)

It culd work like this:

First, make money undropable (exept by death of course).

Also, there must be a mximum amount of money you can ask for, and it depends on your current amount of cash (in metallic, not items), and oyur skills (not combat-related ones). For example, a newly created account could only ask for ~100gp, but Zezima could ask for 100k-1M depending on his current money. Also, the money would be automatically repaid (e.g., if you owe 1k, each day out of 11 you will be taken 110 gp) and, if one day you can't pay, something would be taken out of your bank to pay for that day (prices of repay would be its low-alch values)

There could also be a faith-loaner system, but it would take up too much bandwith and noone is trustable here right now..

(PM me if you still want to know how this would be (but believe me, it's only possible IRL))

This signature is intentionally left blank.

Then you would have people making accounts, giving them 30 million, then taking out a loan for tons of money, and dropping it all back to the main account. Gawd.

But if you can only take out X2 your money, then making a new account you only get... something like 100 gp? Won't work.

The assassin idea is supposed to make it harder or even impossible to do certain things, such as PKing (like every 5 minutes an assassin pops up to kill you).

~Toxicologist~

If you could only double your money it would be even cheaper.

Make account

Give money

Double money

Make new account

Give money

Double money...

That isn't even cheaper... X2 makes it harder...

~Toxicologist~

Except it is, because say you have 200M coins. Give to a noob character, take out a 200M loan and give the 400M back to your main. Instant 200M tell me thats not cheap.

It might work better with collateral.

Right now, if you have stuff, you can hi alch it and get coins, but you lose the stuff foreger.

If you had loans with collateral, you would be able to get your stuff back simply by repaying the loans. If you didn't, it would go up for auction on a new item auctioning system, and you would get none of the proceeds regardless of the difference between your loan and the value of the actual items.

The loan amount would be a fraction of the shop value of the item of course.

tokin rite wurx gud!

An awful idea, seriously. How many of the beggars and kids who play Runescape can comprehend the loan idea?

They'll just see the oppurtunity for free stuff, take it and end up moaning about the repayments.

OK then, how about if your only allowed to loan a certain amount of money

like 1k for newbies?

10k for noobs?

100k for owners?

and then you decide on when u will pay it back and in how much each month? will you pay back then that decides n the interest.

then if you have not paid it back in the time limit, then maybe a random event LIKE thing but not exactly one, comes to you and is like a balief, if you dont give money back, he will either steal it of you, or take precious items from you( OR BANK ) then the other thing the balief might do is fight you, lvl depends on your lvl of course.... how about it? :D :) :(

When you have to stretch an idea this much to make it work, it's usually a good indication that it won't.

nahhh... i think runescape can even teach the young people who play the game on how to be patient and wait until you can afford it.

i mean we know how obsessed people become wiht games... they will probably literally think 'ohh i could take a loan from the bank... i can do something as easy as mining to pay it back in 2 days'.

loans are bad in real life.

yet at the same time, they could teach people a more valuable lesson... paying off loans when you DO get one.

I said it makes it harder than just making a new account and take out like 10 billion without any ado... What are you comparing with?

this could work with player owned houses tho.

morgages are feesable.

100k morgage on your house.

pay 10k weekly or you lose your house

keep it simple people

Ok After all these disscussions I'm convinced moneylending won't work... it is also rather useless, really.

Jagex could track where the money is traded to anyway.

But its just not worth the hassle..

There should be a maximum amount...it could be the same amount as your total experience, since big XP is hard to get, or just 10k max.

maximum loan of: BITE THIS IDEA!

If not payed back penalty is: DEATH BY NOOBS!

Discussion: OVER!

Jk but I do think this is a horrible idea. It would make skills absolete.
