  1. Do you use firefox or IE? Im guessin its a java problem...so if you are using sun java...re-install it...if you are using ms-java...downlad and install sun java...
  2. Laptops are fairly good, they last pretty long, if you take care of them...but, they arent the best when it comes to upgading...if you take care of them, they can last you ages...i have a nice monochrome, toshiba, laptop [intel i386 ~66mhz AKA Super Slow] though i dont use it much anymore [nor does my family] it lasted roughly 10 years or so...and still works... Laptops are worth the money, here's some quick pro's and con's Pro's Portable, don't need to plug it in always, you can use it while on the road/rail. ght, easy to carry, very useful to help research in library etc. usually last fairly long...depending on how you take care of it, and what make it is... Con's Unupgradable, expensive, not very powerful hardware wise [but that's not a problem if its just for work]
  3. your system is screwed up severly...i've had this type of virus before and...they are a pain...'] 1] getting a task manager of any type, wont help all that much, yes maybe you can close the program that's running [ie limewire] but, you arent really solving the problem, you are just, sorta, limiting it... Really, you have 3 options. 1] Install some form of a virus scanner [if you still can] [not free virus scanners...] and try and get the virus out that way. 2] seek professional help, take t e computer to a repairman to try and remove the virus. 3] This is what i ended up doing...complete systems format...as in install A fresh new version of windows. [don't do this unless you know what you are doing] and last, but not keast, when you do resokve this problem, BE SMART dont download useless stuff, limewire especially...they come with all sorts of nasty things....
  4. 1) this all depends on what site you are searchin, make keywords differ from site to site. 2)Make sure you KNOW the keyword, and know the proper syntax of the keyword. 3)what site are you trying to do this on

  6. Oi....looks like my internet has had a boost: 2.3 megabits per second Communications 2.3 megabits per second Storage 284.4 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 3.6 seconds Subjective rating Great Just goes to show how accurate this is...lol
  7. I have had this problem before on my computer. This problem can be caused by a number of different things. First: Are you using Microsoft Java, or Sun Java? 2nd: Make sure that windows firewall (if you have sp2) allows runescape to go through.
  8. What browser are you using? also...take note....that sometimes runescape sound just randomely doesnt work...this happens to me a lot....
  9. Whats wrong with just using the tip.it calculator....I don't see why you'd want to make your own.
  10. Can you still get Win98 format discs? :P Try getting your hands on a WinXP Pro CD if you're running over 192mb of RAM. It may run a tiny bit slower, but it worth it. -Mitch- I would highly not recommend this if you are planning to get a new computer, this is waste of money...and if you computer is anything less then a pentium III, it will run terribly slow (Pentium II does work OK if you are only going to do typing...but very very slow) ...BUT Why buy a new OS disk when you can just buy a computer with win xp Gammer: Regarding getting a new computer, i would wait 2 more years, unless you really really want a new one...and try to get a spyware scan ;) there are many free places where you can scan your computer online.
  11. Wow, thanks ;) Also....this same computer has a Vibra 16C sound card (date: 1995). I have a game (date: 1996) that refuses to acknknowledge the presence of the sound card....I'm gonna expiraament a little....but was wondering if anyone has any ideas... The game is: Armada Wing Commander, Created by Orgin Systems
  12. Communications 1.1 megabits per second Storage 133.9 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 7.6 seconds Subjective rating Good 8)
  13. I have windows 3.11 (for workgroups) installed on an older computer....I don't use the computer for too much, but I want to connect it to my existing home network. However....one problem exists.....Windows 3.11 has no TCP/IP protocols....I know microsoft released them some time ago ( a long time ago) but i can't find a place to get them...anyone got some ideas? And don't tell me windows 3.11 is outdated....I know that already...
  14. I have a NVIDIA Geforece 6600gt and recently tried to upgrade my NVIDIA drivers....(mine are like 3 years out of date) but when the setup ran......it just restarted my computer....and did nothing.....
  15. the partition resizing/bootloader was my main problem. i tryed to instal a copy writen aroun 2000 and i got an err message saying it wasnt compatible. dose the verson that you linked to resize the partition and installs a bootloader? Yes the one linked does have a partition resizer.
  16. Keb_Ryo has pretty much summed it all up...just thought i might say this: If you are installing windows XP, you cannot use the fdisk command (also fdisk does not resize partitions, which means all your data will go byebye). Instead, you must do all the partitioningwithin the setup. Also nothe the the linux EXT2 file system cannot be read by windows. What version of linux do you have? EDIT: Also wanted to say, some versions of linux have partition resizers built into their setup system. This means that you will not need to erase your current widnows. Ensure that you properly setup the bootloader (LILO or whatever the other one is) This is the linux version i use, it is very user friendly: http://wwwnew.mandriva.com/en/community/ This is the specific download link... http://wwwnew.mandriva.com/en/downloads/mirrors/2006iso
  17. You didn't answer my question. How far are you away from your wirelsess router? does the signal go through a floor? In wirelss networks, there are two things to look at, signal quality, and signal strength. for some odd reason widnwos xp only tells you the signal strength....unless you have special programs. If you have poor signal quality, It directly affects your iinternet. Also, have you tried reinstalling your network card?
  18. How close are you reletive to the router/modem/server? If you are too far and get poor conection, then disconnections happen quite often.
  19. the file msgrapp.dll belongs to MSN Messenger. It's not a big deal to be missing this file......but if MSN starts acting up...you could do with reinstalling it. It is however a known issue that HijackThis can report this file as missing when it really is not.
  20. This system works for basic fractions (the first method). But it doesnt work for all types of fractions, only the most basic....
  21. Yes, this is possible. But to do so you need to have equation editor installed as an extention. I have Office XP (its probably similar in other versions) This is how I do it Click insert-->Object A dialog box appears, scroll down (they are in alphabetical order) till you find Microsoft Equation 3.0. Click on it, then click "ok". A toolbar will appear with different mathematical functions. frations appear as a dotted box over a dotted box in the toolbar. Click the icon, then you can insert fractions. If you do not have equation editor installed. You will need your setup disks. Then Go to control panel. clcik add/remove programs. Find Microsoft Office in the list. Click change (in win 98 its add/remove). Choose add or remove features. Click Next. A Menu appears with a tree system. Click the one labelled "Office Tools" (its the last one) then clcik equation editor. A dropdown menu appears, select "Run all form my computer" Click Update. Then follow steps outlined above to insert a fraction.
  22. That is most wierd....are you sure you typed in all the data in the fields correctly?
  23. clcik tools-->options-->General under "connections", ther is a button labelled "connection settings". Click it. Click manual proxy configuration. Copy the data into the fields from IE's connection settings.
  24. Make sure that your encoding is set to either Unicode or Western European....I know some encoding can cause wierd text displays.. This is done by: Click View-->Econding-->unicode(auto-select is usually fine) EDIT: Ensure that the "Enable visual styles on buttons and controls in web pages" Check box is checked in the Advanced options. To do this: Click tools-->intenet Options-->Clcik the "Advanced Tab Look under browsing...its like halfway down....if this is unchecked, ? will appear in various sites.
