CLS vs CMaul

Yes yes another topic, but I am a bit more specific than others if it helps.

There are only four places I will actually use the chaotic weapons, clan wars/soul wars/castle wars and boss hunting. So basically safe pvp and bossing, will the maul out dps the long on tank armor or will the burst be large enough to compensate for it. So really is there be a HUGE difference in terms of performance between the two weapons when doing these things, because if there is not I am 80% set to pick the maul. But somehow I think the long is much better though, just wondering.

For slayer, whip + def > CLS + def.

But anyway, you should really just choose whatever weapon you like more. They're both going to be extremely effective for both scenarios.

What about rapier guys. I'm thinking about getting that one, since it seems that nowadays with all accuracy boosters (turmoil, overloads, ...) speed > strength bonus in nearly any case (except pking I guess where you need Ko's). If whip was really better than godsword at bandos, I can see rapier being better than CLS too.

IMO, rapier is the best weapon for general use.

Well I wrote a quick program to do this, and it turns out that CLS is outclassed by a combination of rapier and maul. If rapier is hitting more than 54%, then longsword would outclass it, but if longsword is hitting more than 60%, then maul would be better.

Could you explain this a little more? Are you saying if the rapier is hitting 54% of the time, then the CLS would outclass the rapier, but if the CLS was hitting more than 60% of the time, the maul would be better?

Some how that doesn't make sense to me.

Accuracy is based on 2 rolls, the attacker's roll and the defenders roll. If the attacker's roll is greater, than he hits. The Max of these rolls is deteremined by the Max hit formula, but using different variables. If we know that the rapier hits 54 percent of the time and our attack value, we can determine the defense value and use that to determine the accuracy of the longsword. If the longsword hits a certain amount more often than the rapier determined by their max hits and attack time then it deals more dps.

I know that the rapier would probably be the best weapon all around, but I am just not used to having to fight with a toothpick. :)

Also yes I know both weapons are going to be extremely powerful in both situations, I can switch offense to defense in one combat round with CLS while CMaul would deal extremely high burst damage to a target while lack defense. Now of course if you are playing things like clan wars(I am talking serious clan wars with actual clans), defense is as important as offense. But I am just wondering if the massive bonus from Maul would compensate for that. Also in causal safe pvp like soul wars, would the longsword outperform the maul so much that it would greatly hinder the player who use the maul?

I don't have any of them, but I would almost not bother with a long if rapier outclasses it. Above posters make a good point; if whip outclassed a GS on Bandos, then surely the rapier would outclass the maul and long for MHing.

As someone stated, the amount of accuracy boosters nowadays really makes DPS matter more than ever.

However, if you want nice KOs, I would almost take a look at the maul. PVP is obviously a little different than depending on DPS.

Not really, if c rapier is hitting less than 54% of the time, long is better. I'm just saying that a combination of rapier and maul will always beat long.
