And I just decided to go to law school, and know saru is showing even ME up. Sadface

Can i sleep over sometime jimi?

of course. I might decide to go to law school too@@@@@@ I don't know yet. I might do my English degree, then go into political science/law. Seems like I'm gonna spend all those years studying English, so might as well put it to use where it counts (you know, using my superior grasp of the language to deceive people).

Mmmmmm politics.

EDIT: ALG, you've been looking at my blog for like ten minutes. SPEAK UP SON. Also how's the weather in SF? It's annoying here. Also what's your first name? I'm gonna stalk you so hard.

Active: My dog bit the child.

Passive: The child was bitten by my dog.

In an active sentence, the main focus of the sentence (the dog) comes first, then what the dog does. In a passive sentence, you essentially reverse the order. Passive voice is usually used in research papers and the like, but you shouldn't use it too much (definitely not an entire 8 page paper).

Active: George Washington ordered an attack on the British fleet.

Passive. An attack on the British fleet was ordered by George Washington.

you buy a new couch. or you let the couch assimilate you. either way you lose.

Christian Humanism

The forces that brought Humanism to life, which created the force that brought the world to life

Several times in history, humanity chooses to conglomerate for a brief period, in which humanity will make great strides in particular fields. Provided, an oppressive force exists to give reason to rise above all present malevolence. The Catholic Church filled that position, when its power grew to an unheard of power all around Europe, so did Humanism grow inside of Italy. In order to revolutionize our thoughts, and bring about the greatest intellectual shift ever known to man. The factors that underlie humanism stem from the discovery of Latin and Greek literature, to the need for a more personalized relationship with God. Humanism accomplished its goals, and not only sparked a successful Protestant Reformation, but an insatiable thirst for Latin and Greek literature. Yet still today, we see the remnants of Humanism still survive to this day.

The Crusades strengthened the Catholic Church, allowing more land in Europe to come under the grasp of religious leadership. The Europeans grew restless, for too long they were told how to act righteously; while altogether the Church distorted the view of God. As Erasmus, a founding father of Christian Humanism, clearly states: so there are those who make the philosophy of Christ sad and morose, although nothing is more sweet than it. (The Reformations Origins) The denizens of Europe started to understand why their religion and their lifestyle did not click together. As the Papacy stole more power from the governments of Europe, the multitudes discovered that the present picture of God longed for some much needed correcting.

Christianity sprung into existence, as a tantalizing force to be reckoned with. The institution contained many different facets; its biggest being mystery, which controlled much of the public perception. People wanted freedom; they wanted salvation, a way to escape the tangible world they lived in. Christianity offered this, but also something more. Eternal salvation brought hope to many yet, the capability to have a personal relationship with God, unlike the Roman Gods of old, brought unlimited possibilities. Yet, after the Crusades, the Church left behind all pretense of a personal relationship, as it brought its will down hard. In stepped Christian Humanism, Humanism, hoped to break this hand of the Papacy, without destroying the order that the Papacy brought with it. Douglas Bush, a researcher of Humanism and the Renaissance stated the following:

Humanism is that way of life and thought which keeps man in union with God and above the biological level. It opposes both the irreligious scientific rationalism which would separate man from the divine, and the ethical or unethical naturalism, which would link him with the beasts. (Bush 55)

Humanism, despite its power, and proper message still needed to be transported across Europe. While the Dark Ages gripped Europe, many inventions had been put on hold, in order to deal with the mayhem that transpired with the fall of the Roman Empire. However, once the Crusades ended many new inventions came to life (The Crusades). One of the biggest inventions, originally discovered in China, was the block press. Johannes Gutenberg, a man from a rich family in the Holy Roman Empire, expanded upon the block press. With his single invention, he allowed Humanism to change the face of the European spiritual playing field.

All the while, Johannes Gutenberg learned about the Chinese invention; he decided to extrapolate and improve upon the system of transcribing. Gutenberg, being the son of a wealthy family, devised an amalgam of alloys that increased the efficiency of the press, thus vastly streamlining the process. At a book fair Gutenberg released his largest project, 200 Gutenberg Bibles that cost more than two years salary for the average person. Even so, despite the price of the books, as Steven Kreis, a researcher of the printing press states: [the idea of] Printing stimulated the literacy of lay people and eventually came to have a deep and lasting impact on their private lives (The Printing Press). With the frame of mind of Humanism set up, and the means of communication propagated by the printing press, all that is needed is a founding doctrine, to change the face of the Earth.

Once the Roman Empire fell, and the bands of lawless groups of marauders took over the European land mass, all respect, as well as knowledge of the Roman and Greek literature died. People could not survive in the environment of the post Roman world, for all the time they spent indoors, kept them from being outside cultivating the already scarce crops. If you took the famine that covered that plains of Europe for centuries, and compound it with the warring governments, no one had the time, or the lavish lifestyle that enabled such studies of past civilization.

The language barrier snagged the aspiring Humanists by their coat pockets. Each different country spoke their own language, and each region their own dialect, there needed to be a unified language, in order to produce unified thought. Latin was the closest choice, since it was the founding language of the Roman Empire. Fortunately for us, for many of the authors that inspired the Christian Humanism movement had already produced their works in Latin. Nevertheless, one lasting big clog in the information artery that presented itself was the fact that no one spoke Greek before the Crusades. However, after the Crusades, as Paul Kristeller, a researcher of the period of Antiquity concludes:

from the Byzantine and later Turkish East, through purchase and through less honorable means, a large number of manuscripts containing almost the entire body of extant Greek literature, which was thus deposited in Western libraries and diffused through handwritten copies and printed editions. But since the knowledge of Greek was completely rare even during the Renaissance, whereas Latin remained the common vehicle of learning and instruction, the general diffusion of Greek literature depended no less on Latin translations than on editions of the original Greek texts. scholars gradually translated into Latin almost the entire body of Greek Literature and thus introduced it into the main stream of Western thought. (Kristeller, 15)

Francesco Petrarch, commonly known as the founding Humanist, was the first to realize the importance of the Greek texts. A renowned lyricist, Petrarch sought after true emotion in his works. He did not care for the superficial, and prudent text, but text of overflowing freedom of emotion. (Petrarch - Petrarca, Life and Sonnets) This of course, being a founding doctrine of Christian Humanism, the need for an overflowing and real love for God, people had begun to understand what it meant to be in love. The people of Europe had found their champion inside Petrarch, who, despite longing for the Papacy to come back to Rome, was not afraid of the Church juggernaut, as he set the pace for revolution.

With the perpetrator of spiritual injustice, the Catholic Church, made aware to the enlightened populace, and with the language barrier between Greece and Europe being, for all intents and purposes broken, all the forces were gathered to unleash upon the world the train of thought known now as Humanism. Humanism, specifically, Christian Humanism, as has been stated previously, focused upon a life with God, a sincere take, and disposition upon Gods world; with which intellect, and knowledge could combine the Religious, and secular aspects to achieve true understanding. (Humanism) Despite popular belief, Humanism did not directly oppose worldly logic, and worldly thinking, it was more opposed to the idea of only traditional ideas holding validity. The end of the era of Antiquity started with Humanism, and with Humanism, it brought in the era of the Renaissance, which was a major factor in shaping the world as we know it today.

After the Crusades of Saladin and conquest, the Catholic Church had grown in power to proportions not known since the now ancient Roman Empire. As the Papacy, and the revolving governments obtained more and more power, along with clamping their grip down upon all facets of life; the individual relationship with God that existed in early Christianity, had begun to wilt. With the prevalent corrupt politics taking advantage of the common peasant life that gave cause for Humanism; the peasant of Dark, and Middle age Europe forgot that a close relationship with God could exist. When the Christian Humanism movement in Italy finally started to ebb, its ideal of a revolutionized close relationship with God started to spread. Thanks to Gutenbergs press, (The Reformations Origin), it went over the Alps, where it landed on Martin Luthers door step.

Martin Luther, a monk in Saxony, got wind of the Renaissance, in his young adult years. Along with its Humanism counterpart, he became inspired to write the 95 Theses. The Theses echoed the same thought pattern that started the Christian Humanism movement. The thought declared that the Catholic Churchs version of Christianity didnt accurately describe Christianity. Notwithstanding, Martin Luthers list of wrong doing was much more succinct and to the point, then Petrarch, and Erasmus ideas. According to Edward Bleiberg, Luther argued that salvation was always a personal matter between God and a human being (The Reformations Origin). Again, this was very similar, if not the exact same to the idea that started in the 1300s, there is no need for a worldly intermediary, after Christ died for the worlds sin, but it was Humanism, that made society more susceptible to the idea, as well as the printing press providing means of mass literature.

Scholasticism is the idea that belief systems steeped in traditional values are by their very nature, grounded, valid, and respectable. This belief system ruled the brief era of Antiquity. Conversely, when Humanism came out of hiding in Italy, it shook the roots of Scholasticism, making a way for new ideas to come forth. This was really what allowed the Renaissance to become so great, was the idea that new ideas had the potential to be just as valid as the established facts and beliefs (Humanism). If scholasticism has remained the standard mindset of the era, Copernicus might have never attempted to understand the Earths relationship to the Universe. On the other hand, the significance of a falling apple lost to Newtons mind. Clearly the extent of Humanism reached far beyond even the Protestant Reformation. Christian Humanism propagated other such revolutions in thought, not unlike the Enlightenment.

As soon as the Catholic Church had amassed enough power to control Europe, it began to lose control of Europe. With inventions, of both the tangible, and the cognitive, the tectonic plates of the human cultural psyche began to shift. Humans drifted away from the belief system of scholasticism, during the Renaissance, as well as the Protestant Reformation, to form which together shaped the world as we know it. Humanism brought about many different voices to the playing table, but most importantly, Humanism made humans, human again.

There's also humanism as a branch of psychology, I think. Carl Rogers and Abraham Mazlow.

We're humans, and attaching -ism to the end of stuff is a good way to improve it. So there are probably like 9001 different things called humanism. It's just that nobody cares about 8998 or so of them, and the other 3 have their fanbases.

Hi there,

I have removed this bit from one of your posts on this topic in General Discussion. http://forum.tip.it/...-update-boaesu/

How about we DONT turn into the runescape official forum with bashing of every single update there is?

If you don't understand the difference between this and the RSOF, you don't belong here. Most of the responses are reasonable, logical, and understandable. Aside from trolls like MRMr and Gio, people normally have reasons. The shields were misdefined. The KB was wrong, etc etc etc. Need I go on?

I've removed this post because I feel it is pushing the line of what is acceptable in a debate. When debating on these forums, it is important that you debate only opinions and that you do not attack the person behind the opinion no matter how much you disagree with what they say or how illogical their reasoning seems. This is covered in our official rules section 1.3. I have provided the relevant excerpt for your convenience.

1.3 - Flaming, Violence, Harassment & Pointless Vulgarity

Heated debates are allowed across the entire forum and we are more lenient when it comes to banter between users in the PvP forums only. However, we always draw the line at personal attacks. Unacceptable forms of flaming include intentionally posting false arguments, intentionally misquoting other users, posting flames or personal attacks for no other purpose than to incite a negative reaction, annoying others or disrupting a discussion.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I disagree. You continue to tolerate persons such a Gio, who add NOTHING to ANY discussion, except trolling. And you stick up for them. People wonder why TIF is going down? Its because of all the misdirected time spent by the moderation staff.

Whilst I'm not saying that my post shouldn't have been removed, some might argue so but I digress for now, although I could successfully defend it against any and all allegations against any sentiment being, why do you continue to put up with these trolls? I've talked to the staff numerous times, its like calling a 1-800 number for customer support on a product, they just don't listen, or care. Instead you (the staff, collectively,) spend far too much time, and energy, enforcing the LETTER of the law, or at least the parts you wish. Do I really need to prove this? I could give you half a dozen posts by people, especially ones such as MrMr and Gio, which are NOTHING but trolling, and flaming.

I'm willing to do it too, but by PM is far too much of a PITA for the nothing that it will accomplish. Add me on skype if you'd like.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, I appreciate the staff. However, over the past year or so it seems certain things are changing on TIF, for the worse, due to the staff's misdirected efforts.

As well, my post broke no rules. I will argue that as well. It was neither a false argument (As I can prove all I said) Nor was it libel. It wasn't stated for the express purpose of inciting a negative reaction either. As such, I believe the post should be reinstated. Not that it matters what actual VALID points exist. They'll be ignored anyway.

RIP staff if I could get into a REAL court with any of them.

What.

The only difference between gen-disc and the RSOF is that the trolls are slightly more subtle in gen-disc. Or Gen-Disc has its collective head so far up its ass that it can't tell who's trolling and who's disagreeing with their elitist preconceptions about a browser-based MMORPG.

The best of the RSOF is miles beyond the best that Gen-Disc has had to offer.
