Sharks WTF?

Featured Replies

So i've been gone for a good month or so, and in the meantime, i bought like 30k raw sharks for about 1.4k each, considering jagex is cracking down on macroing. They are now under 1k??? Does anyone know why they are suddenly going down? (I saw the graph; it isn't a crash caused by a merchanting clan)

EDIT: Also, what are rock climbing boots and why are they 50k?

EDIT:

This should explain the boots...

"The update on 24 June 2010 introduced a large amount of coins into the game, as players could sell or alchemise the new "rock climbing boots" for 45,000 coins, when previously (before the update), they had been purchased as "Climbing boots" for just 12 coins each. All regular climbing boots in players' banks were converted to rock climbing boots, giving these players an unexpected large profit. Many players on the RuneScape forums believed that these players were granted wealth they did not deserve, and called for a rollback; this did not occur. Mod Emilee responded with a thread giving statistics of 55% of the people had one/zero pair of boots before the update, 99% had fewer than 50 pairs of boots. Mod Mark said the highest number of boots that a person has is 1.8k. " -rswiki

Longer answer is that a week or so ago, jagex changed climbing boots. They introduced a new pair of boots into the game called rock climbing boots, and converted all existing pairs of climbing boots into this new pair. These new boots have the stats that climbing boots used to have, but they started out costing 75k gp. With a 45k gp alch value. They did this because they did not like pkers using the 200gp boots all the time, to get good strength bonuses and whatnot, and apparently one person had at one time payed 75k for a pair or something like that. The boots you get for the death plateau quest no longer have combat stats.

So, basically, if you had like 100 or more boots in the bank, which alot of pkers had because you get them from kills and you lose them alot, then you got a ton of free cash. 100 pairs of boots alched for 4.5m. And there were accounts with more then 4k pairs of boots. So it basically added a bunch of new money to the game all in one shot. It also makes no sense, because climbing boots suck compared to d boots, but climbing boots now alch for 45k, and d boots alch for 12k. Apparently the person that did the math behind the dungeoneering rewards and the multiplier for the bonus xp weekend also did the math for the alch value of rock climbing boots.

Kind of makes we want to join JAGEX MERCH, you get 6200% price raises in one day :D

Couple of potential factors here.

2-week temp bans for botting, instead of perm bans - Increased botting of all resources.

Guy who notes lobsters and swordfish on Karamja - increased both legitimate and botting F2P fishing.

Lowered price of lobster and swordfish due to increased supply - created cheaper substitutes for monkfish and in turn sharks, driving down their price as well.

Stiles = Worst update ever.

And noob botters who sell for minimum for cheap cash, in total disregard for the economy. Bots and macros are important to the economy, so much raw resources... but crashing the market is ftl.

Cheaper 99 cooking = ftw

Yes, I noticed that cooking sharks is profitable right now.
