Weights?

I never said you were attacking me. I'm not being argumentative, I'm just pointing out where u assumptions are rather flawed.

1) I don't see your point here? Your assumption was I was doing nothing else, I said I have been working on getting for past two months and am now stepping it up, this clearly shows I have been and will be doing other things. So I don;t see why you assumed nothing else?

2) I've said several times I do not want big muscles, why are you so insistent that I do when I've said several times I do not?

3) Not really relevant, I only mentioned this because you posted saying I had said I was skin and bones, when I clearly said my arms were skin and bones.

4) I never said I was specifically doing cardio no, but I did say I had been working on getting fitter and as you jsut said natural assumption for tht is diet and cardio, so you've kinda undermined your own logic there. But again my point was you posted pretty much stating I was doing no cardio as an outright fact I was merely pointing out this was a baseless assumption.

I get that for more detailed work out plans etc you'd want ALLLL the info. But I wasn't asking for that was I? I was merely asking for advice on dumbbells as I was looking to add them to my routine and as other have proven the info I gave was more than enough to suggest how heavy to go for, some possible brands and a multitude of excercises and recommendations of muscle groups to target etc.

You still haven't told us what you're doing, but if you don't want to then fine. Your definition and my definition of big muscles seem to be different I think, to me big muscle is bodybuilder muscle, to you big muscle is...I don't know, but less than bodybuilder muscle

I don;t personally see why you need to know what I'm doing. It's not relevant to the advice I was asking for.

But I included all that is relevant to the topic I want advice on, there no reason to assume anything else as I'm not asking about anything else.

some of these posts were really harsh considering the OP is just asking for some honest advice, quite frankly who cares about what his goals are? i doubt any of you are certified personal trainers. Every teenager in america is under pressure to get sculpted arms and a 6 pack, you could just base it off that.

edit: i have a pair of adjustable yorks that go up to 20 on each bar or 40 on one.

What you are currently doing (aka your day-to-day routine) is very important as we can judge whether or not it is appropaite for your goals. Also, "getting fitter" is not a goal. Specify it. Do you wanna get "big", ripped, or just "be healthy"? Knowing what your goal is.. is important.

Anyways, the OP hasn't started any arguments. It is simply those who can replied have made assumptions about him which were incorrect.. and that led to arguments. To answer the original question: you can do a lot with dumbbells. Triceps, deltoids, biceps, lats, and trapezius. However, if you are serious about getting "shape and definition" then just having a set of dumbbells is not enough. You either have to buy more equipment (if home gym) or get yourself a gym membership. After that, you have to learn what exercises work what muscle, and many other things. I would go into detail, but you are probably to loose interest in "bodybuilding" in a couple of months or perhaps even weeks.

As for how much the dumbbells should weigh, that all depends on YOU and how much you can lift them using the CORRECT forum. Do remember that certain exercises require lower weight than others (depending on how developed the muscle you are targetting.. is).

If you are already skinny, you have the bodyfat % part down... let me explain it. The lower your bodyfat % is, the easier it is to see your muscle. So if you are already skinny, that is great since (unlike many others) you don't have fat to loose.

Most simple and easiest advice I can give:

Little and often. See the weights in the morning when you wake up, do a set of 10 of a few different exercises. Before lunch/dinner? Go grab the weights again... same thing before you sleep/before a shower. Doesn't really matter what you do, as long as you're doing something that feels good and that's pushing you slightly. Of course you're doing other exercises as well I'm sure, so mix it up, little but often. "Little" doesn't have to mean slow, doing intense exercise for 10 minute bursts with a variety of things can get the heart pumping and you feeling good. But of course, I'm sure you know/do this.

Stick to doing something everyday, don't skip out a day; something everyday, even if it's a few minutes of intense exercise if you're short on time. They say after 3 weeks of doing something everyday it'll become a habit?
