December 7, 200520 yr Yup, last night my eardrums got an almighty beating at the London Astoria :D I'd never been to that particular venue before, and after hearing it is used as a gay bar 4 nights a week, i was a little curious as to how well it would hold a metal night. I'm not sure how many people there were, but i'd hazard a guess at around 1000 - most of them stuffed into the pit in front of the stage. I decided i didn't particularly want to get my arse kicked, so i managed to get a place in the front row of the lower balcony, which was about 20 feet from the stage and offered a great view. I actually missed the first band (The Agony Scene), but to be fair i didn't even know they were on the bill. After a brief soundcheck, Devildriver hit the stage, opening with the 1st track from their latest album "The Fury Of Our Makers Hand". Man, they were LOUD, the bass drums were insane, guitars sounded beefy as hell and Dez Fafara totally rocked the place with his vocals and constant motivation of the crowd to "never let life get you down". The set was incredible, with songs from both of their albums thrown in. After about 3 songs Dez let the crowd know that they were being filmed for an upcoming dvd because "i told them that london had the craziest [bleep]s in the world" - he wasn't far wrong. They ended their ~ 30 minute set by asking the crowd to chant "Lamb of God" with them, a nice gesture for their "friends, who were good enough to bring them out on tour". They then left the stage to a huge applause, definitely a job well done. About half an hour went by before some dude with a ski mask on came onstage asking "do you want lamb of god?", and of course, we did. On they came to some indian chanting, before slamming into the opening riff of "Laid To Rest" - at this point i realised that Devildriver was like easy listening compared to these guys, the guitars were absolutely deafening. The rest of the set went by with a lot of variation - songs from their latest album included Omerta, Now You've Got Something To Die For, The Faded Line, Ashes Of The Wake, Hourglass, and What I've Become, with some stuff from "As the palaces burn" thrown in for good measure (Ruin, 11th Hour and the title track, all were done brilliantly). Lamb Of God have always advertised themselves as 'pure american metal', and that they were as they finished in typical fashion with 'Black Label' from one of their first albums. After all that, they thanked the crowd for putting them where they are today, shook a few hands in the front row and the gig was over. I made my way onto the london underground with a ringing in my ears and the feeling that my ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã12.50 (yes, ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã12.50 for a ticket) was money very well spent. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
December 7, 200520 yr Ohh man I would of loved to have seen Lamb of God. Did they play there old stuff or there new album? It looks like it was a ton of fun from what I read. :D
December 7, 200520 yr Sounds like good fun. I quite like the Devildriver album and I enjoyed Lamb of God at Download festival this year ^_^ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. December 9, 200520 yr Wow... I would absolutely LOVE to see Lamb of God and Devildriver! Sounds like you had fun, dude. :)
December 10, 200520 yr Sounds like an awesome show. I wanted to go to the LoG show up here in Manchester but I couldn't afford it. I'm goin watchin Strapping Young Lad and Arch Enemy on Tuesday though

I'm goin watchin Strapping Young Lad and Arch Enemy on Tuesday though I saw Arch Enemy live not too long ago. (I would kill to see Strapping Young Lad though.) IMO, they don't really give a very good live show. Their stage prescence just isn't all that great. They can't really motivate the crowd. They all basically just stand in one spot and play until they're done with their set. However, the music is good. :D

Both support bands are better (Throwdown and SYL) I only bought tickets because SYL never tour round here and they're one of my favourite bands.

December 13, 200520 yr Author I always thought Arch Enemy were pretty good live, but then again the last time i saw them was in 2004 so maybe they've lost their edge a bit in the last 18 months :? Lageris, that show sounds pretty cool. I'm not too keen on SYL, but i would definitely like to see Throwdown. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
December 13, 200520 yr Arch Enemy is one classic and good band. I must say tho Stigmata was there best album. Blah I don't think Throwdown would be too good live, just don't like there taste really.
December 15, 200520 yr The show was awesome, Throwdown ruled, and played a Pantera song (A New Level) in tribute to Dimebag. SYL destroyed, really got the crowd going and Devin was hilarious. After that I left the pit and stood at the back for Arch Enemy just to check out their set. I was leaning on the back door, the exit, and then SYL's drummer (Gene Hoglan) walked through the door :o Only 3 or 4 people recognised him so I managed to shake his hand and tell him he played an awesome set. Amazing night. Sorry for hi-jacking your thread there Rizla
