Training Smithing

Featured Replies

First off I'm not planning on training on the bonus exp weekend, so assume all prices are what they were before the weekend was announced and supplies are readily available again.

I've been wanting to train smithing lately, get it into the 90s and maybe even 99, but quite frankly I haven't a clue as to what the current training methods are.

I'm willing to spend some money but of course nothing insanely expensive, so.. what are my possible options, if you could provide an exp rate and gp/exp that would be great.

All armor/weapon smithing methods are usually quite expensive.

I'd suggest superheating gold personally. With goldsmith gaunts you can get 120k magic and smithing exp per hour, pretty easily. There are a few alternative training methods for this:

-Smithing at varrock furnace while superheating with varrock armor. Less magic exp, less nats used, possibly slightly higher smithing exp

-Mining gold at LRC while superheating, banking or dropping bars. If you value mining exp I would strongly suggest this. Superheating does not interrupt the process of mining concentrated ores, unless done more than once in quick succession. If you drop bars you can get upwards of 70k mining 65k smithing and 55k magic exp per hour at 90+ mining. This is an amazing method.

Vid of the drop method (banking one is self explanatory):

Edit: I should also mention that smelting gold purely at a furnace, while it saves you nats, is very slow exp. At the very least, superheating at a furnace is superior.

Superheating old is very very fast. I 'm getting 240k xp perhour, so about 125k smithing and 115k magic.

i just smelt gold in edgeville with goldsmith gauntlets

exp is around 60-65k/h

and it costed me 54m for the ores from 72 till 99 (i'm almost 98 now)

Sacrificing efficiency for fun since 1991

I watched the mining/superheating vid, and I really like it. I don't need any magic XP, but I really want XP in both mining and smithing.

It looks like he's doing it solo (not w84) and he isn't being attacked. Anyone know of any LRC solo mining guides?

He's at the northeast gold vein, there's a torch there where you can LoS the rock creatures.

I'd suggest w84, unless you really lag there, it's hard to safespot rock creatures at most of the other veins.

While superheating gold is pretty much the standard nowadays, if that gets boring then making addy plates (Once 88, usually also combined with SC hammers) are fast, if expensive, exp.
