Mage Slaying (maybe range too)

Yeaaaaah, I've kinda been wracking your brains since I've been back because having majority of the year out makes the old cogs a bit rusty ya see ;)

 

Now..... I am a great lover of melee and it's my general plan that after I get smithing to 99 to max out my melee's during 2011 if I can....... Via my beloved slayer of course.

 

However, I'm at a junction in my mind now. My mage level is a pitiful 74 currently and I would really love that to hit about 85 so I can try and boss hunt a little bit perhaps. And my range is a dismal 78.... but I am working on that one!

 

Right soooooo my main thing:

 

When I hit 90 attack and 90 strength I intend to start breaking up my slayer a bit more - into melee tasks, and mage tasks..... Perhaps range.

I currently cannon everything I can and piety what I can't (except for greaters and black demons..... Blacks I'm thinking of blocking..... yes, no, maybe? what do you think?) So therefore I do get a nice little chunk of range exp most of the time and tasks are generally quick.

I also currently have a very nice looking 17M cash pile after I just stocked up on pouches, pony scrolls, monkfish, and tonnes of super att, str, def and prayer pots. (However about 8-9M will be sucked out of it before the end of the month as I want to grab 96 smithing before I'm back to uni in october).

I do have a FSH

I has a DFS! :D

I ALWAYS use Kuradal

Also.... A friend of mine has a SoL he'd be willing to lend me, so i guess that's atleast 1 thing sorted right?

 

I'll probably whack my stat's sig in again soon, but most people will know I now have:

88 Attack

85 Strength

99 Defence

78 Range

74 Mage

92 HP

90 Summoning

87 Slayer

 

So then more question time!

 

What is a good set up for mage slaying?

What is a good inventory?

What would be a good spell for me to use mage slaying?

Is mage slaying worth it?

Is it possible to mage every task I get?

Will I make a profit if I do that though like I still manage to with piety and cannon?

Would I still cannon?

Would I also use the highest mage prayer I could to kind of replicate piety?

What would be good monsters for me to mage slay and actually profit on?

What would be the actual best thing for me to do to raise my mage?

 

And if you don't go crazy from answering all my questions listed in this post then please tell me the same sort of thing about range slaying too, as I'm considering that.

I suggest getting 92 summ if you can first, so you can wolpert to increase mage damage.

And 75 magic to use a sol.

 

What is a good set up for mage slaying? Ahrims / battle robes, arcane stream, fsh, inf boots, barrow gloves, god cape, arcane ss / bss / unholy book

What is a good inventory? Ee, teleport, wolpert scrolls / uni scrolls, runes, slayer ring, food

What would be a good spell for me to use mage slaying? Fire bolt, Claws of guthix, Fire surge, or highest spell

Is mage slaying worth it? Just get 80 mage + claws of guthix mace and kill rexy until you have your desired mage lvl imo.

Is it possible to mage every task I get? Off the top of my head, I think spiritual mages, abby spectres, waterfiends, and mithril dragons are bad.

Will I make a profit if I do that though like I still manage to with piety and cannon? Dunno

tbfh... only real method to train mage fast is via barraging/bursting, unfortunatly, mage slayering, is not very efficient or fast :( . BTW, you cannot use sol without 75 mage(i think)

Ok, here's my view on ranged, I just came back from a long break myself and hit ranged 99 while slaying.

Firstly NEVER EVER block black demons, they're just raw ranged and slayer xp, grab your best ranged outfit, pray pots (6-8), ranged pots (2) always eagle eye, a BOB pouch, because the herbs add up if you have a task of like 200 and cannon away, you can do a task of 200 in an hour pretty easily if you keep an eye on things.

 

What is a good set up for range slaying? - best ranged boosting gear you have + book of zamorak + rune darts + cannon

What is a good inventory? - depends which monsters you are killing, tasks you can tank, like greaters, fire giants, have 8 pray pots, 1 super def, 2 ranged pots

Is ranged slaying worth it? - Hell yeah, if you cannon, it's the fastest slay xp (did about 1,3 mil slay xp in 6 days...)

Is it possible to ranged every task I get? - almost, because you have uni you can tank some pretty easily

Will I make a profit if I do that though like I still manage to with piety and cannon? - even without doing clues you probably will, I did, not hugely ofcourse, but I did profit, the drops add up if you get some whips as well

Would I also use the highest ranged prayer I could to kind of replicate piety? - yes

What would be good monsters for me to mage slay and actually profit on? - anything you can, my personal favourites include: black demons, black dragons, fire giants, greater demons (all pure ranged tasks, cannon + range everything, excep greaters which you should ank in kuradals dungeon with rune darts)

What would be the actual best thing for me to do to raise my ranged? - slay while cannoning everything

Battle Robes are a no go, you don't get the set effect without the hood, which you can't wear because of your slayer hat.

WROOOOOOOONNNNNG about battle robes! When Im fire surging ice wyrms, I know for a fact that the battle robes work with a sol, because I use a VERY disproportionate amount of runes to wyrms killed, and i get the robe activation message if i turn filter off. :thumbsup: mind, getting them is a (CABBAGE), the robes, not the wyrms.

Last time I heard, two out of the three pieces of battle robes had crashed.

 

But yeah, I don't use a slayer helm when using battle robes. The slight loss in accuracy/damage is definitely less than the benefit of saving 50% of the cost. I use them while mage slaying (except on ice wyrms)
