Mountain Daughter Quest Help?

I am at the part of this quest to chop through the dead trees and get into the cave. I have tried every single tree and it will only let me cut down one tree. I have been sitting here for a half hour trying to figure this out. Any one that can help me make this stupid path to get to the cave would be great. Thanks.

"I must somehow convince the chieftain of the mountain camp that his daughter is dead."

 

I was looking at a quest walkthrough and it says to go North of the lake in the mountain camp and chop through the dead trees to make a path to get to the cave. It only lets me cut down one tree. Any other one I click on it says that I can't reach it or that there is nothing to gain from cutting down the tree. I don't know if I'm jsut stupid or what, but I really want to finish the quest since I am almost done.

Have you completed the Daughter's tasks? You need to make peace with Relleka and stock the camp with food before you can enter the cave to kill the murderer and retrieve the daughter's body to show to the Chieftain. You can't proceed unless those are completed. Is that line you've showed us the only un-striked one in your progress list?

Yes, I have gone to White Wolf Mountain and brought the seed back to her dad. I got the safety contract for the one guy, and I already talked to the daughter. This is the only thing that is not crossed off. The walkthrough tells me to get through the trees, and like I said, I can only chop down one. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for trying to help though. :)

hmm shouldn't you speak to the center of the lake now? (or have you already done that?)
