How often do Handcannons break?

I know itll be hard to get exact figures, just hoping for a general idea. Im considering using a handcannon at frost drags, but I dont know if that would be worth it without a yak.

 

I have 92 firemaking and dont really want to lvl anymore now, what kind of explode rate should I expect? Mainly will it be better than rune crossbow and rune bolts at frosts.

Theres no known formula at the moment, but i'd say 92 firemaking is very good.

 

The chance of the cannon breaking is very random, at my firemaking level sometimes the cannon lasts 100-200 shots and sometimes it breaks after 10-30.

I wouldn't even consider it before 99 fm. I've had around 1600 shot per cannon average over ~10k shots, but grimy had around 800 average over 4k at 97 fm, the point at which it becomes worth it is around 1.3k per cannon.

Are you sure those numbers are accurate? 500 shots difference for 2 levels seems extreme .

RS wiki says 1/400 at lvl 70

 

I've personally had 7 handcannons explode in 2411 shots at lvl 97 fm (~1/466 shots)

Look at the sample sizes, you can't draw any conclusions before testing is much further.
