Any one play ping pong?

Featured Replies

I recently got into it. I bought a crappy combination racket from ikea. I can't hold it comfortably in penholder style. I'm going to buy a new paddle with high quality rubber. Anyone else play? What kinda racket do u use? Got any strategies, tips?

I play too even though my style is kinda weird, as its like alot mixed together. I often use a somewhat backhand move where you start a backhand holding the racket slightly backwards but then i snap my elbow which puts alot of spin on the ball and can get it to curve into the opponents stomach.... kinda hard to explain but i've had it curve off the table and back on at a angle, looked pretty cool

EDIT: I like a soft paddle with alot of grip, and high quality rubber

Solving the confusion once and for all

Oh man... I am so obsessed with ping pong right now... and at the risk of sounding arrogant, I've gotten quite good.

Best thing is to not try so hard. To smash the ball good, just make sure it's in that "hanging" mode, inbetween going up and coming down. Then for a backhand smash, just click/curl your wrist up and over as you're hittng the ball to give it some overspin and you're good.

For a forehand smash, just make sure your arm is almost fully extended, and again, curl it over into overspin and move your arm laterally only.

Try and play with your backhand for receiving hits.

I only play ping pong when I go to my friends house. :) But its damn fun, since I play tennis as well.

Oooo... I recently sold my table-tennis-table for a few hundred quid. I started playing when I went on holiday and they had a table-tennis-table and tournaments there.

As expected, I won.

When we got home my Dad decided to buy one for the house. (My Dad's pretty good)

Pretty sad about it going though.

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

Not well :) But I love to play it.

It's great getting a few mates around, winner stays on, best 2 out of 3 rallies, especially when all of you have nil abilities :P

I LOVE ping pong... it's so fun to play! But, it's not fun to play with someone who is extremely good at it. I like to play with someone on my skill level and just have fun. Sometimes, we see if we can play without hitting the table at all. :D

I just play for fun :) I am ok at it, no real style, just hit it over the net.

I don't know if you guys did this aswell, "around the table", you're with a group of like 8 people. And you serve, and run to the other side of the table, the person on the other side of the table returns the ball and runs to the other side of the table etc. etc. Every person who hits the net or slams the ball out of the field gets kicked out untill you got two people left, and they play a small match. :P

Ive played it, but i hit the balls to hard and i just get angry...

My freinds had a nice variation of it though... When ever you loose a point, you get the ball served into your back. They got some nice brusies playing that game...

What? How can you get bruises from a ping pong ball being served at your back? That must be impossible, lol.

Played doubles , isn't as hard as it sounds, just not can't slam a lot without hurting your partner.

I'm thinking of getting a different paddle, one with high quality rubber.

But on the package it says the stats for speed, spin and control. And the high quality one is high speed and spin, but slightly lower control. What exactly do they mean by control?

Yeah, there's a variation of it for tennis called "Around the world," so my friends and I just translated it to ping pong. The only difference from you, is that when 2 people are left we play where after you hit the ball, you drop your paddle and spin around once. You then pick up your paddle, return the ball, and repeat. People get dizzy, start to stumble. Makes it very fun :D.

I got my paddles and pingpong balls in China :D

They all come from China anyway

Ping Pong's nice, I don't have much skill other than hitting the ball over the net...

Haven't play the game since I destroyed my bat in a fit of rage :P
