A way to improve summoning

CHARM TRANSFIGURATION

There is an inescapable fact when training summoning: Gold charms become less and less useful at higher skill levels. No new familiars utilize gold charms after level 71, and this is compounded with the fact that the secondaries for the last 2 familiars are either impossible to obtain in large quantities (polar kebbit fur) or fairly expensive (tortoise shells). This means that realistic summoning training with gold charms stops at level 66, with the barker toad.

Applied to the game, this fact means that high level players do not have much incentive to collect gold or even green charms. I know that personally, when faced with limited inventory space, I will often drop these charms in favor of another item. I don’t think it’s good that these charms are so devalued, so to encourage high level players to pick up low tier charms, I offer a simple solution. Pikkupstix and Bogrog will now offer players the option to transfigure (or if you want to keep it simple, just exchange) their lower tier charms for higher tier ones. There would be some reasonable monetary cost for doing this applied per charm:

- 500 gp for each gold charm when transfiguring into green charms

- 1000 gp for each green charm when transfiguring into crimson charms

- 2500 gp for each crimson charm when transfiguring into blue charms

*These figures are preliminary and will be changed to reflect an actual balanced cost.

Charging coins for transfiguring charms would build upon summoning’s original intent as a money-draining skill, at a time when more such sinks are needed in the RS economy.

[Extra suggestion: For players who complete the Familiarization D&D and select it as their reward, Pikkupstix will offer a small discount on his prices to the first 180 charms you transfigure. The exact amount of charms he applies the discount to depends on how many raw shards you were able to collect on the spirit plane.]

In addition, you will NOT receive a 1:1 ratio of experience when changing charms from one type to another. In other words, transfiguring gold charms into green charms and then training with them will net you less experience than if you had trained with those gold charms in the first place. This is a needed trade-off between convenience and reward. The exact charm ratio will vary with the player's summoning level.

Comments and further suggestions? I really feel like this update would strengthen the summoning skill as a whole, while improving its intent as a money sink.

I dont get it. You say you will get less exp for transforming charms, yet how does this provide more incentive to pick up golds if they give less exp and cost more?

problems are as follows:

100 gold charms + 5,000 gp > 56 green charms

100 green charms + 10,000 gp > 30 crimson charms

100 crimson charms + 2,500 gp > 48 blue charms

if you want people to use an update, it must have incentives.

Blue charms > No charms (due to dropping gold charms for inventory space)

Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.

to get the blue charms you would need to pick them up and bring them to bogrog...

Erm if im getting this right you still gotta pick up gold charms to trade them in to some guy.

You can just train with barker toads if you want to use golds. Or make war torts to USE. Same with green, make yips or unicorns...

Do not need.

Why is it necessary to have people pick up every charm they see? Low-level charms are just that. It's like saying that it's disappointing that there's no incentive to mine copper/tin when you're level 60 mining.
