kingmickez25
Well i bought a wireless router about four years ago. I never set it up properly you know with a password and how to link it properly so i could surf the internet as well as play ps3. A few days ago i noticed that i was lagging while playing Call of duty black ops which is not unsually but 5 games in a row so i check my router and i noticed my wireless router antenna is broken. no big deal right but after many days i just cant seem to play a game fully without horrible lag ive tried switching to local matches only still no avail so i think its time to buy a new one. Can Anyone Suggest one its gonna be for Playing online with my ps3 Nothing to high in price And nothing to extreme i dont need the greatest router just one to get the job done. Also if anyone could tell me how to link modem with wireless router so i can surf the internet on the computer and play online with ps3 that be helpful. Thanks to everyone that replies
Tim
Standard Routers for such things are brands like Netgear, iLink and Belkin. a Netgear DG8346-V5 Router is a standard ADSL2+ Router with 4 Ethernet Ports + Wireless, thats about $100-120, You wont get them much cheaper for the function your after. Hegelstad
It's not the Router, everyone playing black ops connected to a router have this problem more or less. The best way to solve it is to connect your PS3 straight into the modem supplied by you internet service provider. But the matchmaking and host migration system is crap so you might still experience major problems. Racheya
I know nothing about PS3's but surely if they have an ethernet port, you'll get much more stable internet by shoving an ethernet in there and the back of the router? kingmickez25
The one problem is my computer is infront of my television set. so theres no way to direct connect it without someone tripping over the cable. or need a really long cable to make it around two doors and to my ps3 so do you think its that i need a new router or is it what the other poster said and usual. The router still works cuz i can browse the internet and connect to it and everthing it just lags when playing online
Sbrideau
I have a 50' ethernet cable going from my router to my Xbox which is on the other side of my appartment. Long enough and not too expensive, it's less than half the price of a new router. Also, does your rouer not come with a separate ethernet port than the others and a crossover cable? You plug that in your modem and you should be good to go, that's what it is for most (well all the routers and modems I've seen myself).
indy500fan
First of all wired is always better than wireless, the newest wireless technology is pretty great compared to older but still doesn't quite have the reliability a wire does. What kind of modem do you have? We occasionally get calls in from gamers who are having connectivity problems only with gaming, and internet service works fine. This has always been because they were "double NAT'd", or behind two NATs. Most ISPs give you a modem/router which has a NAT on it, and then if you plug a wireless router into it then it also has a NAT. If both your modem and router have four ethernet ports (router will have one more off to the side or different colour and be called Internet or WAN or the like) then this is most likely the case. There are multiple ways to fix the problem, basically we offer to bridge a port on the modem for them (gets rid of routing functions) but if they need the other ports then we tell them they have to turn off routing functions on their router. There also exists modem/routers that have wireless capabilities. Someone mentioned some prices before, not sure what kind of dollars they were talking about but you can get a combo unit for about $70, assuming your modem is still fine then you also have the option of just buying a new wireless router which you don't really need to spend more than $40-50 on. I handle a few thousand customers and generally I have seen that linksys seems to be about the most trustworthy brand, but I don't exactly get a random sampling to make an actual statement they are the best.
