How should I do barrows?

So yeah, getting bored of the tedium that is RuneScape so thought I'd try something new. I've done barrows before but that was wearing monk robes and praying everything... Wanna try this tanking it/using whatever method is more efficient.

 

<- Stats are by my RuneScape name over there.

 

Set up:

 

Verac helm

Verac body

Verac skirt

Fury

Skill cape

Abby whip

D defender

D boots

Combat bracelet (I don't have barrow gloves and my highest glove is probably mith)

RoL

 

Inventory would be:

 

D'hide is for Ahrim obvs.

 

Here comes the questions:

• 1) Improve my setup and inventory please?
   
  
• 2) I've seen guides that suggest magic and range. If it should be done; when and what equipment should I use? I think some guides said slayer dart and magic shortbow with rune arrows. I've certainly got enough resources to be using Fire Wave but is it worth it?
   
  
• 3) Dharok > pray, Karil > pray, everyone else > tank? Also, is the direction: Dharok, Karil, Ahrim, Torag, Verac, Guthan okay?
   
  
• 4) Would a SGS be worth getting for use on Dharok and Karil?
   
  
• 5) How do people bank and recharge prayer? Or do people just leave the tunnel and come back with their prayer all drained?

Use ice barrage on all brothers using SoL, Battle Robes and ASN. Really many chests per hour.

Staff: Chaotic Staff > SOL > Void Mace / anything

Ring: ROL (I use it because I can never trust my net, replace it with a seers / dragonstone (i) / whatever)

Shield: Book of Frost > Arcane / Mage book > Zamorak

 

 

Inventory

bloods + deaths + spade + waters(if not using book of frost)

black d hide top, black d hide bottom, whip, d defender, EE / EEE

1 super enery pot, fill rest of invo with spec restores

Carry Ahrim's top / bottom if you want (I personally like the extra mage bonus)

 

Method

For 1st chest proceed like you regularly do dharok -> karil -> rest

from 2nd chest onwards go:

Karil (just before the fight spec EE)

Dharok (freeze and heal up if you are a lil low on hp)

Ahrim (Switch to black d hide, whip, d def)

Rest melee brothers (freeze kill)

 

Repeat till you get bored / go out of runes / verac's breaks, my personal best is 100 chests on this invo (6 items) :grin:

 

-> No food used

-> No prayer used

-> Uses up banked spec restores (I have 8k of those -.-)

-> Uses about 400 blood runes / hour (10-12 chests per hour this way)

-> No need to bank (for pretty long)

Well dayum, I have a quest and some dungeoneering ahead of me now. Thanks for that man, it's like you've condensed a guide into a small post :P I will bookmark this page so I can revisit it.

Better use battle robes instead, to cut rune costs in half, remember you will be freezing them melee brothers, use blood blitz to heal and pray against Karil. Use an Arcane Stream Necklace for 15% dmg increase ;)

Don't bother with battle robes imo.

 

I use void deflector/barrows gloves/ardy 3/crapier. If you got void gloves + dragon defender that works well too. Just straight-up melee everything with turmoil + protect prayer & overload. Bring barrows plate & legs to run through the tunnels. Soul split Ahrim with claw/dds/ks specs whenever you feel like it (cause with ovl his stat reductions are not relevant anyway). You can also soul split Torag/Guthan/Verac with ks specs but it's riskier. Soul split flash if you need healing on Dharok. On Karil, I'd just not try to heal.

 

You can do the same with cls and maul, but they are somewhat slower.

 

You can also use Ahrim's + asn + cstaff/sol and barrage the lot, meleeing Ahrim with a rapier and defender. If you want to tank, use Verac's. Arcane spirit shield is better than tome of frost though.

 

You can also use a salamander. If you do, use Ahrim's top instead of Verac's. Freeze a brother as normal, then stand one square diagonally and hit him with a salamander. Melee Karil and Ahrim.

My prayer level it is at a measly 70 ;_;

 

I think I'll try the other two things you mentioned, see which I like. The salamander method sounds like one wrong move could [rooster] it up though.

I know your prayer is 70, I mention soul split to illustrate how the method may or may not be suited to you :P.

 

You can replace it with piety and brews.

Oh okay, I understand now thanks. I like the idea of meleeing everything. Any idea on how many chests an hour/per inventory I could do with piety and brews? Even if it is an estimate, I'd like to know.

 

And do I counteract 1 sip of the brew with 1 sip of the super restore? Or would a normal restore be sufficient? I've never drunk a brew before :oops: . Should I bother bringing my extremes if my stats are gonna go down every time I heal?

Chests/hour should be around 10, I imagine, little more perhaps.

 

Use brews only with overloads. Use overloads. You can finish the run in one dose (from first to last brother, not counting walking back).

 

If you want to a 12-run trip, you bring 3 ovl, 6-9 super prayer (2-3 doses per run), spade, spec weapon, tele, two armour switches (plate & legs), 6 brews or so. When I used EEE specs I barely needed any health, so I imagine 2 doses per run is decent. I'm not sure though as I ssed as needed and you have higher melees. I'm not sure how much prayer you need either, you should try out what works for you.

Barraging can let you do many tenths of chests in a trip. My mate usually does 60-90 chests in one trip.

Eh true you can, but there is no point in doing 60 chest trips. It'll take you at least 5 hours and at that point, it's more efficient to take breaks (to farm for example).

 

Also, for a 60-chest run your mate would need 15 overloads. Or he'd be losing out on 21% magic damage. Hardly efficient.
