Wessan
I have heard that having a higher Magic level actually improves a player's Magic defense. Can anyone cite this from a credible source or Jagex themselves? I cannot seem to find it.
aspeeder
The Defence skill plays a role in Magic combat: Defence against spells is measured as 30% of the target's Defence level and 70% of their Magic level. Wessan
RS Wiki is usually pretty reliable. Thats pretty amazing though how much the Magic level determines Magic defense.
Sir_Squab
Umm, you'll have to take me on my word on this one (or not take me on my word if you don't trust me) But, you know those messages you get when the game is loading, filled with all those tips? One of them says something along the lines of "Your magic level increases your magical defense, so warriors and rangers might want to train the magic skill for magic resistance." I'll try to remember to take a screenshot of it next time I see it. Wait, better yet.... What affects my magic defence? Magic defence depends on your Magic skill level, Defence level and equipment you are wearing. The higher your skill levels and Magic bonus, the less likely you are to get hit. You will also receive less damage from a spell. Wearing, of course, full Karil's, wearing one of the highest magic defense armours in the game, yet is surprisingly susceptible to magical attacks. Squab unleashes Megiddo! notasoupbowl
Yeah I heard the 30% def 70% mage thing in like 2006, so if it's a rumour, it's been around a while
LitterBug
Yeah I heard the 30% def 70% mage thing in like 2006, so if it's a rumour, it's been around a while So most of your magic defense actually comes from your magic level? Does anybody have any concrete evidence for this or is that just hearsay? If that's true - then I'm going to rush leveling magic >.<
Quyneax
It's well known that magic is very important in magic defence - in fact it's the reason 90+ magic is recommended for all sorts of bosshunting. If that's true - then I'm going to rush leveling magic >.< Well, there's my post about Karil, who is an NPC basically modeled after a Player wearing full Karils, with 99 def/range - ever tried maging him? Epicly LOW magic defence. Quite surprising coming from someone with the best magic defense body and legs. (Well, excluding Pernix or whatever that stuff Nex drops.) Then there's my actual quote from the Jagex knowledge base pointing out that magic levels affect your magic defence. If your question is "Is there a quote somewhere on the Jagex site that distinctly says that 70% of your magic defence is actually based upon your magic level" then the answer is No. If you really wanted, you could always try paying pures to let you attack them via magic - find 1def pures WITHOUT magic, then find 1 def pures WITH 99 magic.
