Interent, why so stupid?

Last week we finally got a new main computer, to replace our old piece of [cabbage] that always crapped out (calling it that is being polite). We have a Cisco router, and it uses a program called Network magic, for all things wireless. Now, dad did something funny in transferring all our stuff, and I was away so I don't know the details, but we made a new wifi address to connect from.

Now, I went into Network Magic as I needed to connect my laptop, and took off this protective lock which stops new networks from joining. I was having problems with it, but after a few restarts on both that computer and my own laptop, I got the internet working.

Now however, windows keeps telling me that it cannot get a valid certificate to log on, yet, I am typing this on the interent on my laptop right now.

What is going on?

My laptop is running XP SP3.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

This interent sounds interesting, is it any faster than the internet?

That's helpful...

It sounds like something in your router setting - have a look through any security tabs or access control. If all else fails, I guess you could reset.

I have only used the CDs/programs that came with routers three times, 2 times was before I started my job (which includes installing routers) and one time after I knew what I was doing. All three times it was [cabbage]. Here's what you do: reset the router back to defaults (should have a pin hole reset), get rid of Network Magic or whatever it is called on all the computers, restart computers, connect to linksys network which will pop up in wireless network list (or just plug in temporarily), go to 192.168.0.1, wireless settings, change ssid and password, connect to new network name on all computers.

All home wireless routers come set up to get dynamic ip addresses from the ISP, and to hand out local addresses. The internet will work for most people with just plugging it in. Throw those [bleep]ing CDs and stickers that warn you "not to plug in router until you run the CD" into a bonfire, light them on fire, then piss on them when they are done burning. They are there solely to install stupid network administration programs on computers seemingly only to make my job a pain in the ass.

The problem now lies that my dad will not uninstall Network Magic, as he can't see any reason why not too.

What program would be a good replacement to it, if any at all?

No program.

You don't need one.

All the programs do is take over from windows/linux/mac to run the internet when the os is perfectly capable of this itself without any software intervention.

This - tell your dad that the reasons you should uninstall it are:

1 - it does nothing of value.

2 - it slows down your computer.

3 - it makes it impossible to do what needs to be done in order to get your network working properly.

I talked to dad about removing it, but he still said no even with all those reasons above... He can be quite stubborn some times.

Oh well. I removed Network Magic from my Laptop, and I managed to fix the validating identity issue myself now.

If its YOUR laptop and you were able to just remove it why did you need to talk to your Dad?

Surely he'd only dictate over removing it from the his desktop/the family desktop? Which shouldn't of been effecting your connection to a router.

No no no no....

We have multiple computer in our household, and the main one (the most recent one) is the one that is the boss of Network Magic, so to speak. If I want to take off the network lock, we use that computer. Dad doesn't want it off that computer.

I can take Network magic off my own laptop free will, which is what I did yesterday.
