Zoov
I wanted to see if I had any artistic ability. I gave myself this image and attempted to copy it in MS paint. I kept color to very basic. I also did not clean the image perfectly. I think I did relatively well, but this I know this is such an easy task for a lot of you. Here is the result: It took about an hour. Thoughts? How can I get better at pixeling? Should I copy existing stuff or just free-form some of my own ideas? Thanks. K4ylan
Pretty good; the most noticeable thing you can work on is the nose. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
tripsis
Shading, shading shading! :D You also forgot the two lines on the back of the shell. Copying existing stuff can be a good way to work up an artistic foundation. Then once it's given you enough practice and confidence, you can move onto your own ideas. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Orpheus
Yeah, learn to shade, even if it's simple as a darker area, it's a lot better than no shading. Otherwise, quite good for a first attempt. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.
Jeffwilson99
I thought pixel was when you did it pixel by pixel? Well like others said you've copied the basic shape well, you can add a lot of depth to it with shading. As you probably know the blue is a bit off... Zoov
I made no attempt to color it correctly. I will try to learn some shading and eventually repost this - probably a long time. Thanks for the tips. DementedHero
It's easier to start with small sizes, that's where pixel-art really shines. No need to go as huge as you've done right now.Take something like 32x32 or 64x32 for example, where the pixels are much more effective, which makes you understand and learn the basics of pixel-art a lot easier. Cacmypants
Nice work, I agree with everything said before me, but remember to pay very close attention to curve symmetry, that will help a lot (especially when you start animating things). I also highly recommend you use software that can at least work with layers and vectors; it becomes a hell of a lot easier if you can lay down the shape frame-work first, then pixel over the top of it.
