The shadows are done in Photoshop. 15 shades of blue for the robes 10 shades of brown for the tree 10 shades of grey for hair 5 browns for staff 1 shade for the water I am a lvl 101 noob and lover of t3h bunni3s. I would add some more effects to it like you sad you would. The reflection idea sounds great, if it would work. 8/10 +1 point for hte awesome shading on the mage and tree. 9/10.
