Well I just got a Macbook with OS X as a present, but the problem is I've never used one before, so I'm not quite familiar.

 

Just one quick question though, which browser is better for everyday use? Also what is this about apple not supporting flash or something? I heard apple has its own version of java flash support, but would that only apply to Safari or to both Firefox and Safari?

Apple releases its own custom versions of Java regardless of what browser you use, so you're a bit stuck there. However I think this is changing in some future release of OSx, I'm not entirely sure of the details though. Firefox is easily better than safari, and there are a tonne of addons you can stick with it.

When lion osx comes out this month they are no longer having a proprietary java installed, though I hear the lion upgrade installer will install "proper" java automatically to minimise disruption in upgrade (cause then java will be there to update itself)

Hmm.

Question one is difficult... I use both browsers, but I have problems with both.

I suffer a bad support for things like java/flash/shockwave (<--lol who uses that anymore?) etc.. while using Safari.

But Safari offers a safer environment, less flaws and loopholes.

 

Meanwhile, Firefox... good old Netscape... it's generally fast, reliable, has awesome add-ons and all that fun stuff

and makes for a good overall browser... in theory, anyway.

I have had a horrible time with Firefox (my main browser) for the last several years, despite complete removals, reinstallations.

It takes on average 45 seconds to start up for the first time of the day. After that it takes 10 seconds to load up each new window

or to quit/start it again.

Really rather annoying...

It also crashes a lot, gives me tons of whitescreens, and I have to turn it off through the activity monitor(3) sometimes as even though

it's off, it'll still sometimes be be destroying my CPU.

 

That was longer than I wanted... oh well, anyway, your bit about Apple not supporting flash.

 

Unless this is about something with the new upcoming OS version, I believe what you're hearing

is about Apple's iPhones, iPads, and iPodDon'tTouchMeTheres. They don't support flash, as, honestly, in both Apple, and my

own opinion; Flash is an abhorrent abomination of computer programming with more security holes, scripting flaws, and is prone

to more crashing and bluescreening of your computer than any worm virus trojan or a hammer straight to your motherboard.

 

 

So yeah, hope my opinion helps you out a little...

I couldn't give you a Safari or Firefox direct answer, as I use both, and I don't know which

I'd suggest you use for everyday use.

 

I'd just try them out and see how it goes. :)

Stick with Firefox until OSX Lion comes out this month imo.

I don't want to start that argument again, but it does sound like you've been eating up all of Apples words and are reiterating them without any research. I've been using Flash for the past 10 years and I haven't suffered any 'crashing' or 'bluescreening' at all, let alone faults that are comparable with taking a hammer to your motherboard ;) If firefox had as many loopholes and security flaws as you imply then why would over 1/4 people use it? Why is there not more hype about how it opens up your computer to hackers if what you say is true? If you have such a problem with firefox and safari then just use Chrome.

Does mac even allow chrome? Idk, but on my desktop i still use firefox with no problems, just a slow startup time like kevin said the first time I open it after I turn on my computer (about 15 seconds or so).

I started with Safari when it came out (Netscape before that) so I've just stuck with it- it may crash a little more or be a tad slower, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for what I think is a better user experience. Try a few browsers for a week and see which you like best.

You will be able to buy it very soon for $30 from the Mac App Store (should be an application on your computer I think). I'd recommend waiting a couple minor versions (10.7.1, 10.7.2) before buying to let some bugs get sorted out.

To add to that if you go to the mac website you can enter your email address to be notified of its release.

Then as stated it costs $30 from the app store.

 

Its annoying really US get a blooming gd deal at $30, its £29.99 in uk.

$30 = ~£18

I'm not sure if it's available for OSX, but the official RS Client can be used for playing RS out of a browser environment.

From personal experience, Safari provides the best experience. It's fast, and it's the browser i've always gone back to - Firefox and Chrome just don't run as well and can be a little slow at times. Chrome in particular seems to eat up RAM.

Unfortunately there is no client for OSX, nor is there anything like swiftkit, you are limited to browser gaming.

 

I use Safari for all of my browsing on my macbook as I find it a tad bit faster and to me that's what makes the difference.

 

The Flash support is only for the mobile OS's that Apple has(iPad, iPhone, iPod), all of the touch devices and does not affect the computers.

 

And yes OSX Lion will be released very soon I'm sure. The App Store should be on the Dock at the bottom of the screen and you can purchase all sorts of different apps and Lion when it comes out there.

Thanks! I honestly didn't know. Last time I checked swiftkit I didn't see it. I just use the client on my windows computer anyways.
