Power
Well I think I've decided I'm going to get another chaotic, the thing is I don't know which would be best for me. I currently have a rapier and it's amazing, and I'm thinking of getting a maul next. What I'm wondering is would the maul be best for td's/random bossing or would the crossbow be better? I've heard that both are great for multiple things but i can't decide. Any help is appreciated.
Quyneax
The crossbow is a defensive ranged weapon, if you want ranged offence (and at your stats you do, as they are only suited to team bossing & tds), go with rigour + handcannon. Maul is great. Leaf
I'd go for CCB, there are very few bosses where Maul is useful at. Oh, if you haven't gotten Rigour yet, I'd say that is more useful than CCB.
Power
I hadn't even thought of rigour I guess I'll have to think of that too. Would the best buy for tds alone be maul or rigour + handcannon?
Leaf
If you're fast enough at switching weapons, Rapier is more DPS than maul. At least, that's the case with maxed stats.
Quyneax
And rigour is better dps than eagle-eye, definitely take rigour over maul if tding with uni. Also use maul for Bandos and Saradomin god wars. Also use maul for Bandos and Saradomin god wars.CLS > Rapier > Maul at maxed stats at bandos, right? I've been testing, and with 91 attack, piety, extremes, maxed strength gear... Rapier seems to be significantly better than maul on graardor, with dragon defender of course. On topic to the question, i'm very biased as i only have rapier and maul, but maul is magnificant. It's not exactly the 'best' in many cases, but it's just fun to use and never far from being the best, unlike any other slow weapon. It's great at waterfiends, it's great for cannoning where you rely mostly on the cannons damage (cave crawlers + dagganoths) and it's just fun to use in general. It's great for TD's if you want to take a more relaxed approach, as someone else mentioned rapier is technically more dps, but watching for prayer switches and changing before you waste a hit takes a lot more effort. I personally quite like to use it for a speed kill (dragon claw spec - dragon claw spec - chaotic maul) as that's the most damage you can do in a short amount of time and is great for pvp or fast damage in a FFA boss team. ^^ TL;DR i <3 maul Can't really say much on the others, but CCB is almost essential for nex. So you'll want that eventually. (And i'm pretty sure it's prefered at arma, too.)CLS is decent for GWD and possibly high armoured PVP, but rapier destroys it anywhere else. (Of course if using a spec weapon, you'd prefer rapier for PVP as it results in a faster special out of nowhere)Staff... Meh. I'd prefer SoL over it for anything due to the runes saved and no repair rate. Rigour. Good for nex/arma/TDsAurgury... Pretty darn awful. Aren't leeches more effective than 20% magic attack anyway? Aiel
No, Maul>CLS>rapier DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers ringsQBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow partsCR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size....It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty). AHappySeeker
No it's not. Maul is used at TDs for comboing with a rapier btw. Same job as claws for when your spec is down. Dramatically improves kph but may not be worth using with a titan.
Quyneax
And, @Powerfrog, maul is worse than rapier at crawlers. Dagganoth may be another matter, or abberant spectres, because you may move around a bit (they don't gather around the cannon as well) but rapier is still better if you leave gold/green charms. For Bandos god wars there is accuracy data that suggests that maul > cls > rapier, and rapier is always best for the minions of course. But i do not understand your bandos. If maul is the best, then how come absolutley no one uses maul at bandos other than people without a CLS? I'm pretty confident that a CLS and dragon defender would be considerably better DPS than a maul on a maxed account. Or are you literally just saying that it's more accurate, as in hits less 0's per hit? Because that's pretty obvious...

Quyneax
^What he said :P. People don't use the maul because they can't use a shield with it, and get hit more. They may also be ignorant or simply not own a maul. Although my most common tanker does use a bgs, so that may account for the faster kills with rapier over maul.
