I'm gonna put it simply so you don't have to ask about another method:

 

No matter how you kill something, the kill is still yours unless somebody does more damage than you; meaning that whatever damage is dealt by you, a cannon, a familiar, dreadnips, (basically anything you use to kill something) is all counted together towards receiving the drop.
