enfield
Whenever I read actions per minute, or apm, or a/m, i get uneasy. all the humanness is sucked out of rs for me when I think about my actions per minute *shudders*. But part of me knows it is an effective way to think about how one plays rs. How do I reconcile these disjoint parts of myself??
Jadinko
Stop listening to the crowd and think for yourself. RUNESCAPE = GAME = FUN = WONT GET FIRED FOR NOT WORKING HARD ENOUGH. Miseryism | Completionist
homer205
Suck it up or stop thinking in Apm. Just click faster/more accurately if you'e doing stuff too slowly.

Grimy_Bunyip
I wouldn't understand why you think APM is a soulless word. But maybe that's because I watch to much starcraft videos. In that community, it's more respected as something necessary, and something that comes naturally out of playing the game and wanting to get better. If you see a player break 500 APM for a brief period of time, the reaction is WOAH he's getting really fired up. You need to understand that the idea of APM stems from competitive fervor.Unless you feel the desire to better yourself at something you enjoy, then yes you will find the word to be soulless. Obtaurian
When I'm actively playing, I don't actually think in terms of APM, just speed. AM I GOING FAST ENOUGH?! NO MUST GO FASTER (AKA MUST INCREASE APM)! To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

enfield
@grimy - yeah, i understand in other games doing as many things as quickly as possible is really important and so valued a lot. I just didn't think rs was one of those games (which to a large extent is really isn't). but dging is the main exception, where the concept starts to become useful to rs. When I'm actively playing, I don't actually think in terms of APM, just speed. AM I GOING FAST ENOUGH?! NO MUST GO FASTER (AKA MUST INCREASE APM)! hmm yeah that's the exact kind of thing i would want to avoid - if i'm going to increase my apm i'm going to do it calmly, or not at all (hypothetical).
