Are they kept on death? Like say if you went to corp and you died.

No. Only kept on death if you've got no other items that are worth more than it.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

So they are kept on death, following the default death mechanic, unless I'm misunderstanding and you mean they have some nonsensical mechanic in which they vanish on death unless they are top 3.

By 'kept on death' people generally mean: Will it vanish or will it appear under grave stone since you can pick your 3 kept items now anyway (other than wildy).

I think OP is asking if they are one of those items that are automatically destroyed upon death, like Ava's Accumulator series.

And apparently, they aren't.

Ok I'm sorry I guess I should have clarified my question a bit more. I was a bit too tired last night so I put in a half-fast question.

I'm interested to know if the max/completionist capes are treated similarly to, say the ardougne cape? With the ardougne cape you automatically keep it on death and is neither destroyed or put under your gravestone.

No. It works just like a skillcape. It drops under your gravestone. If you die, you lose it.
