Ipod screen cracked

Featured Replies

Before i start i didnt know where to put this whether in games and consoles or this forum but anyway i got an itouch for christmas. I was so happy but then today i went to play tennis and run afterwards so i brought my itouch. It was pretty windy at the time and i placed the ipod in my racket case to protect it. But then after 20 minutes a big gust of wind blew the case along the ground and for some reason it is now cracked. Can i get a warranty on it?

Should be able to get the warranty to replace it, I'm not sure if that's covered in whatever guarantee apple uses, but you could 'bend' the truth.

Sadly cracked screens don't get protected under warranty, if you have insurance on it then it might be covered. Before anything just contact Apple or the store even and tell them what happened, maybe there's a chance someone will help you.

If not then I would recommend taking it to a professional to get it replaced, or just do it yourself, I've done it before and its pretty straightforward. http://forum.tip.it/topic/293240-ipod-touch-4g-screen-replacment/ (Laura posts a link to a repair guide a few posts down)

Or you could talk to friends as well, after contacting Apple. I have a few friends that replaces ipod screens for other people.

lso that is one reason I won't be buying any ipods or iphone, they use the cheapest screen possible that cracks with almost nothing. With other companies at least you can drop it from any height and the screen won't even have a scratch. For example my brother dropped his HTC smartphone, which has a pretty big screen from about 7' and there wasn't a single crack.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I would first take it to Apple. They've been known to replace iPhones, iPods, and iPads for free with a 'one-time grace.'

Alternatively, the part you need costs $90 from iFixit (assuming you have the 4G iPod Touch). They also supply a guide to replacing the digitizer & screen. Hope that helps.

Cheers.

See if one of your friends knows someone that repairs them. I have a friend that repairs them for $20 in my class.
