glacors, melee or pps?

Currently getting 76 crafting (75 atm) which is final roadblock stopping me from doing RotM. I am working on magic as well, trying to get it to 95, which will happen but will likely be killing with fire wave before getting the level. My question is should I use pps for glacytes or melee? I have turmoil, do not have overloads (actually the reason I want to kill these is to fund the way to overloads). I believe storm of armadyle to be out of the question since money will be the reason i'm there, and it is not a cheap spell by any means.

Fire Surge and Rapiering the glacytes is my suggestion. :)

Yes, but without wolpers or ext mage (overloads), a +7 mage boost isn't possible, so fire surging is not an option.

Then OP shouldn't waste their time at Glacors yet. Fire surge is already expensive enough. Throwing in a slower method of killing them at a higher cost isn't going to do any good unless they are extremely lucky.

I'd suggest training your mage up a bit more so that you can atleast vecna skull/ext mage/wolper scroll to fire surge. You can try fire wave, but kills/hr will obviously be much slower.

ah, my bad, apparently didn't get this across in the opening post. I am training my magic to 95, once I get fire surge is when I will be actually killing glacors for any amount of time, before that will likely just be for curiosity / a break from plank make and livid farm. why is pps so bad against glacytes?

From personal experience Rapier > Fire Surge > Pps for glacytes

Take that with a grain of salt as I'm only 95/99 mage and use vecnas skull oposed to a worpel/extreme/ovl and use a SoL instead of a Chaotic staff.

Also for the record I did a few trips after completing ROTM before I had optimal gear/mage level and ended up getting 15-20 kph with dagonhai robes/firewave/sol/glory. Still made a profit without a boot drop, so dont completely discount using wellfare gear/fire wave as its free mage xp with the small chance of a boot drop.

How can the polypore staff be inferior to Fire Surge when it does 85 more damage?

Sounds like there's a lot of confusion going on here :S

GLACOR: Fire Surge is a must, fire wave works but it'l be slower of course.

GLAYCTES: SoA > Rapier > PPS > Fire surge (FS does not do double damage)

There's really no reason to use fire surge on the glacytes though, it's incredibly expensive. Rapier is only one action more than a PPS to use (activate turm/piety), faster, and it's more beneficial for it you ever want to do steel-titan glacors, since it'l improve your apm.

SoA is the fastest and easy to use (only spell and weapon switch), however its still pretty costly.

I'd go with Rapier, it might be tricky to get used to at first but you'll have the switches down in no time. The Glacor guide on the main site has a great section for rapier switches.

I've killed about 1,5k glacors - with 4 boot drops. I used to fire surge Glacors and rapier Glacytes, also swapping fury, dds and zerker. I managed to kill about 45 /h without familiar. However, eventually I gave up with all the clicking and switched to using polypore staff for Glacytes. I kill maybe couple to few less per hour, but the item switching per each kill is alot easier. I haven't tried Storm of Armadyl or used familiar ever, so don't know how those do compete. Personally, I like maging all the way (can focus purely on mage bonus) without having to worry about multiple item switches. It's still profitable, fairly reasonable and effective. It really depends which way you prefer yourself. In my opinion polypore staff is by no means a bad alternative for rapier.
