Low approval ratings can mean one of three things:

A) People watch too much TV and do not research the facts.

B) Presidents usually have low approval ratings in thier second term because they are more focused on getting things done instead of satisfying people in order to get re-elected. Clinton had the same problem.

C) It's a bad President

In this case, I am sure its B. Although A is not far behind.

I was quite surprised he used the phrase "evil empire." Now that's a loaded couple of words.

Iraq != New York Yankees

the only problem i have with the NTA Wiretapping B.S. is the way hes going about it, illegally, he needs to obtain the warrent and go through it the legal way

has anyone noticed his approval rating is almost ~40%

His approval rating for the speech (where he mentioned the NTA Wiretapping) was 75% which is unbelievable.

I did see the speech, or at least the vast majority of it.

I personally consider myself an independent, and I was rather impressed with the speech. He seems to be more open-minded, and I was happy at some of his propositions. However, it'll be interesting to see whether or not he actually follows up on his words.

I'm just very skeptical, I suppose. Too many politicians use mindless rhetoric and take no action

As for the Patriot Act and the wiretapping issues...

It seems like as long as they're only doing it to suspected terrorists or people with terrorist connections, it's fine with me. However, there needs to be a good accountability system over at the CIA. They need to only wiretap when absolutely necessary and not let anything "slip" like they did with the government agent names.

So, if Bush follows up on his own proposals, especially the energy research funding ideas, things should get better. Iraq is the only thing I really am annoyed about, but there's nothing we can do to correct the faulty inteligence now.

Everyone at Congress, Democrat and Republican, need to sit down and have a long talk about a way to deal with the insugency and get our troops back as quickly as the situation allows.
