sportsjock215
I thought that fruit trees had a set time till they would be fully bloomed, but mine always seem completely random. I checked mine today and its been 24 hours and they still are not ready. Why is this? I am doing pineapple trees at 4 plots.
Low Levelled
Even if you pay someone to watch them, they can still get diseased for a tick.
Sinkhan
Even if you pay someone to watch them, they can still get diseased for a tick. Is it just one tick they can be diseased? My impression is that they could actually get diseased every tick, but the farmer would always just cure it. @OP, are you actually paying for protection? If yes and you're not using supercompost, you probably should use it. The farmer acts as a safety net for dying plants, but doesn't actually reduce the chances of getting diseased. Another possible factor is you logging off and on constantly as that resets the growth tick. As an aside in regards to payments, you should only pay for protection if the 10% of the cost of the seed exceeds the payment price. Something to fill my sig with until I find a replacement. Also check out my blug

I think his point was not they can get diseased for a specific tick, more that becoming diseased still costs a tick. As at end of the 2nd growth stage when tick 2 occurs (for example) the plant can either go to growth stage 3 or diseased. If a plant get's diseased it does not grow, so you get diseased growth stage 2 and when cured remains at growth stage 2. Until the end of the next tick. This same mechanic still applies with farmers protection. If the tree would've got diseased it just remains at the same growth stage until the next tick so you were effectively diseased with for a tick. Hedgehog
This thread is making me cringe. When you pay a farmer, your crop can still become diseased. This means that you lose a growth cycle, because it could have grown instead. The farmer doesn't cure the crop until the next growth window, which makes you lose another growth cycle. Overall, you lose 2 growth cycles. That's not the only reason why they grow at different times. You see, a crop will only grow/become diseased when a farming tick occurs during a growth window (there is no such thing as a growth tick). Farming ticks occur every 500 ticks (~5 minutes). Because of server latency, they're often further apart than 5 minutes. This is one factor that contributes to random growth times. Farming ticks are synced to the in-game clock, meaning that when you log in or out, you have to wait another 500 ticks for the next farming tick. A growth window is the last 5 minutes of a growth cycle. Growth cycles are either 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, or 320 minutes in length and are synced to the server clock (so they're global). They start at 00:00 GMT and loop throughout the day. I have a chart that lists when server cycles end here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AheuzHmAkHUNdDNVbVlOVW90Yk5wMWRjY1lpTkpLOGc#gid=0 For example, a fruit tree uses 160 minute server cycles. If you plant your tree at 1 am GMT, it will either grow or become diseased between 2:35 and 2:40 am. At 5:15-5:20, it will grow again, or, if it became diseased, die. If you paid for it, the farmer will cure it instead of letting it die.
sportsjock215
Ok, so is it bad if you log in and out many times and also should I use supercompost even though I pay for protection. I have never used it because I just paid for protection. I havent really played in a long time I just started playing again.
Hedgehog
It's not bad to log in and out a lot. It's bad to log in/out during a growth window.
sportsjock215
Ok and sorry for all the questions, but why is this bad...Does it give you a higher chance of getting disease thus slowing down the process?
Artemis1330
http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2item_id=4104 As you can see, super compost = less chance of disease = less time lost on growth Regarding your above question, reread Hedgehog original post. I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
